supra_aero
I really want something small which fits in my pocket for excellent internet coverage. That is trouser pocket, not cargo pant pockets or anything larger And before everyone suggests an iphone, battery life is a must and I need something I can rely on without having to charge every 24 hours. Plus I am not a fan of the "in" crowd, so want something different but useful. I am kinda shocked no-one to my knowledge has made anything portable I can browse the net well with - if anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it. SimonT
Try here: http://xda.o2.co.uk/ I dont know what these are like but i guess they are just like a PDA??
supra_aero
Checking now, thanks - you'd think someone would have come up with a device which surfs the net well with good battery life. It's not hard or too much to ask surely
MrRalphMan
I'd suggest some kind of Smart phone, be it WM based or not. They are not perfect, but pretty good for casual browsing. Some of the netbooks are good also, 10" screen will give you a better browsing experience, but they are not trouser pocket size by any means. My touch HD is great for browsing, if you're any where near St Paul's I could give you a demostration. Bear in mind that this is all dependent on the GSM coverage where ever you are. Cheers, Paul. It's not hard or too much to ask surely Battery life is killed once you use the radio to transfer data. I don't think any pocket device will last for 24 hours, unless you use it very infrequently. SimonT
Well it states that some of the XDA's have nearly 400 hours standby time but not too sure what they're like if you use them constantly?!

I work at St. Paul's coincidentally. I may take you up on that offer - I am busy today but let me know by pm when you are free. I'll google "smart phone" and see what results that yields. Do they still try to get you onto an 18 month contract with that phone?
MrRalphMan
Yep, I'm on a 18 month contract, but not 100% sure if you can get a 12 month one. I got mine from mobile.co.uk

Todd
This, Nokia Internet tablet http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/devices/nokia-n810 Fits your requirements to a T but here's the bad news, the iphone is possibly the best device I've come across for mobile browsing, first due to the screen and next the battery life. Still a crap phone IMO

Abz
No worries.. If you do want an play, let me know.. Not in on days again until next Wednesday as I work shifts.. Wow, got a small committee here! I work nearly St Paul's as well! Actually number 1 Fleet Place which is behind the Old Bailey. Ok now how do I say this without saying the rude work? iPhone! Like Ralph I am also happy to demo you my iPhone, though it has been hacked onto Tmobile and I am not on a internet package! Though can connect to a wireless connection to show you the speed it works! This is coming from a techy...after gazillion mobile I have had this is the best...still can not find a phone to upgrade to! You really have to see one to believe it. To the people saying its rubbish, chances are they are not using it properly or dont understand how it works? Never ever any issues with mine, hence why I am so proud of it! Got a G1 and Touch HD just now and only reason for preferring them is better call quality and better signal strength.
