supra-lover
Alright guys little rant here..... 3 weeks ago I broke part of my tooth off "big one at the back" anyway to cut a long story short the tooth got infected and I was put on antibiotics all last week to clear the infection up.I was in immense pain all week. Well today was the day I went in to have the tooth taken out, She gave me 3 injections & proceeded to grip the tooth with the pliers, OMG I could feel everything she was doing it was horrible. people I have spoke to said i will JUST feel pressure so as I've never had a tooth out before I thought the pain I was feeling must be "PRESSURE" well I had to tell her to stop as the pain was overwhelming. She gave it 3 attempts of taking it out but I couldn't take it. She said I cant be feeling any pain BUT I BLOODY WAS, she wasn't having any of it ha ha so she has referred me to have it done under sedation as I was too nervous wtf I wasn't nervous it just bloody hurt, I also have another tooth at the back which I had the nerve taken out of last year and the filling has all come out, I was thinking she would put a temporary filling in it but no, all she did was clear it out, whats the use in that, I've just had dinner and it's now full of Sheppard's pie!! So I'm not a happy chappy at the moment, in some ways I feel like a big wimp as everybody I have spoke too said getting a tooth pulled is nothing!! I can honestly say that it really hurt me, and if thats the "PRESSURE" feeling you have to be one brave SOB to have it pulled lol I'm now awaiting a date for this sedation thing, can anybody here make me feel a bit better, anybody been in the same situation as me?? Cheers guys from a very grumpy chris lol

Havard
I had one of the big ones out at the back and I felt a bit of tugging and sensation but no pain Chris. Why don't you just go down the local puband find the biggest bruiser in there and tell him that you've been doing his missus??
Spike3.0
I've had a similar thing a few years back, I think some people are just less affected by the injections... I remember the pain, and that my nose and cheeks were completely numb ! It might also be the fact we had the same crap dentist... It took 4 injections for me to get fairly pain free, wouldn't want to do that again : (
extendor
Was the pain in the jaw joint or in the jaw itself. Maybe the infection has spread a lot more than she thought and its the pressure on the joint it into pain you are feeling.

Well as she was pulling it felt like a knife was stabbing me rite under the tooth & my jaw had a sharp sensation running along it, it was horrible. No way I could bare it, I gave it 3 goes and it got worse on each pull

jim
Dentists freak me out too, I had one kneel with one knee on my chest tugging with the pliers trying to get my wisdom tooth out about ten years ago, it ended up having to be drilled to break it into pieces and then taken out in bits. Root canal work's bad craic too.

TLicense
Unfortunately I'm allergic to anesthetic so visiting the dentists is a VERY interesting experience. When I was 7 or 8 I had 4 teeth out without any anesthetic. I remember the dentist saying "you're going to feel 16 stone of pressure here" then CRACK!! I think that was the same year I split the top of my head open and had 12 stitches without any anesthetic either.

Cheers guys from a very grumpy chris lol my brother had the excact same issues with a female dentist aswell. she even called in the male dentist as she couldnt pull the tooth out. my brother then had bit of a panic attack and had to get up and leave. he went back a week later and the male dentist carried out the full procedure as normal. my sister has a severe phobia of dentists and she had tablets prescribed to her (valium) to take before the appointment to mong her out a bit. it was hillarious when after she took the dosage of valium she found out the appointment wasnt until the next day. she was like a zombie all morning! Viv
The fact you didn't receive a temporary filling is appalling. I'm now in my 4th year (going onto my 5th and final year) studying Dentistry and even as a student you should know not to leave a job like that half done especially if the follow up treatment may not be for some time. If I was you I would book another appointment and demand a temporary filling. Leaving a cavity that is prone to food packing will only result in an infection if not cared for correctly. She should know better considering that you have previously presented with an infection and been on medication as a result. Whatever happens, DO NOT use a temporary filling kit. That's only going to make it worse as you will not be able to remove all of the food debris prior to filling and then after filling, anything that has been left behind will increase the risk of infection again. Those sort of kits are a joke. I must admit that extractions are either easy (i.e - no complications) or hard, there seems to be no middle ground. You have to bare in mind that a tooth is set firmly within the gum with plenty if connective tissue to hold it in place, so trying to pull it out without breaking it is a challenge. Its still wrong of her to fob you off for a longer, more complicated procedure when there is normally a more simple route to take in those situations. I think you should find another dentist. I can't imagine how anyone could administer 3 nerve blocks and have the patient still complain of pain? She sounds like a complete idiot. I have no confidence in her at all now. I'm going to find another dentist asap like you say, there is no way she is going near me again. Angarak
Just remember, in the meantime DO NOT use Listeriene mouth wash - its like battery acid and will make you cry like a little girl if any of your teeth are sensitive due to missing fillings/cracks. Yes that gear is rather harsh isn't it.. I'm using DENTYL twice a day, lets hope it's enough too keep any infections away while I wait for the op.
