Steviekid
Picked it up on Friday. Is anyone here on the RX8 owners club? I'm wondering if the benefits/tech section etc are good enough to justify their £30 a year membership fee?
benkei
£30 a year?! Nice looking rex though, plans to mod, or keeping it standrd?
Spike3.0
£30 a year?! Nice looking rex though, plans to mod, or keeping it standrd? Wouldn't bother either £30 is a bit much[sHOCK][/sHOCK]
mathew
they look sporty when spotted out on the road but look very frumpy next to the supra. do the rx8's have the same rebuild issues as the rx7?
Steviekid
Nice looking rex though, plans to mod, or keeping it standrd? It's going to stay standard. I'd like her to get a decent exhaust so it sounds less like my neighbours flymo but they seem to be nearly a grand for a Blitz/HKS etc!! Steviekid
do the rx8's have the same rebuild issues as the rx7? Having investigated they don't seem to have. Oil consumption is pretty variable though and I think the only ones that have blown up haven't been looked after properly.
mathew
are they turbo charged?
Steviekid
are they turbo charged? Nope.
Luxluc
A friend runs a turbo charged RX8 (modded by Whifbitz). He runs a HKS LegaMax exhaust ... nice sound. Luc
RiceRocket
Boring colour IMO. Only like them in black, yellow or blue.
DSK
Very nice car, good spec and a a nice drive, ideal for the lady.
Steviekid
Boring colour IMO. Only like them in black, yellow or blue. I prefer the blue ones too. Gun metal looks good though, black is too hard to keep clean (I often wish the Supra wasn't black!) and yellow just looks plain awful. R Black
Is that gun metal looks too light for that? Nice enough cars girlie likes these too.
Steviekid
Is that gun metal looks too light for that? I'm not sure what the official colour name is. It's the grey one rather than silver.
benkei
...look very frumpy next to the supra. The front looks like a squished Supra! As for the rebulid issues, as it's a rotary then at some point it will need rebuilding, but not as soon or as likely as the RX7, as this one doesn't have a turbo force feeding it air! Exhaust wise - keep your eye out on the RX8 forum for a second hand one? You may not have to sign up to be able to post a little and buy things off members (like on here, you have around 100 free posts before having to pay up) so use them to introduce yourself and hunt down goodies! Benyon
they look sporty when spotted out on the road but look very frumpy next to the supra. Exactly what I was gonna say. I think in the top pic the front bumper of the rx8 looks like a bigger s2000 anyone else see it??
stevie_b
I quite like the RX8. My girlfriend has driven one around Thruxton circuit and liked it too. I prefer the looks of it to the RX7: completely different beasts in terms of power though.
juanchan
My mate had one from new. It went ok in a straight line but handled well through the twisties. He sold it on 40k miles as he was getting through serious amounts of oil and was worried about imminent re-build costs
Chris Wilson
Is that your practice's surgery in the background Steve? Looks very tidy. A friend of mine (Pip Gardener at WGT in Northwich) is a rotary specialist, and has now amassed a worrying number of dead RX-8 engines. If it starts to use oil or become an iffy cold starter get shut of it quickly! I have never really come to terms with the styling, to be honest, especially when compared (unfairly as they are aimed at different markets) the oh so pretty FD model RX-
jk136
My brothers RX8 was very juicy and he stuffed it through a fence after 3 months. A mixture of inexperience, useless standard tyres and traction control cutting in at the wrong time sent him off the road. (dont mean to worry you by that) Very nice car though, nice interior, guzzles the oil and fuel though. I forget what he got through the RX8OC, think it may have been something like pen, keyring, calender, membership card and news letter oh and some stickers too. On another point, I thought the Wankel engine had been redesigned with better rotor tips so they were meant to last 80-100k before rebuild time... tomgeer
Nice car, we looked into getting one for the missus but were put off by the horror stories, I hope you have no problems with it.
Steviekid
Is that your practice's surgery in the background Steve? Looks very tidy. Yeah, that's the outside dog run! I'm doing a website for us at the moment, will post a link when it's done. I have never really come to terms with the styling, to be honest, especially when (unfairly as they are aimed at different markets) the oh so pretty FD model RX-7 I tried convincing her to get an RX7/R32GTR etc but she wanted something newer. It's a nice enough car but performance wise my bpu Supra is in a completely different league. I was genuinely surprised at how big the gap was. Biguns
its a good club and worth the £30 plus your get free bacon buttys and burgers at club meets and amazing discounts.
Todd
amazing discounts. Disagree on that one, most of the discounts can be had through here as well or just by haggling and shopping around. The American RX-8 site has a far better technical resource and lots of DIY guides, where I got most of my stuff from.
