Scott
That sounds terrible to me mate. It sounds like the top end. I'm nowhere near an expert but i would be literally shitting myself if that was my car. Hope it turns out to be something really simple. Edit: Ok, not the top end then lol. Homer
Yep, big ends gone. Rebuild time Was the work from before done to spec (normally when this happens on a fressh rebuild it's due to not following the build specifications or from contaminants getting in during the build (unclean working conditions)? Is it warrantied?
wolverine
no the warranties run out just under a month ago the work was done by a freind of the dealers who havnt worked on supras or any sport cars for that matter , and i bet its gonna cost me my arm and both legs to get it done

little num
buy the parts , a torque wrench and a manual and get stuck in , yeh this, will be cheaper to fix yourself and you may not need a wheelchair after
Homer
buy the parts , a torque wrench and a manual and get stuck in , As much as I support the DIY approach, you need to really know what you're doing when rebuilding an engine. A lot of expensive equipment is needed do do it right and a clean enviroment to do it in. There's very few of us that have the knowledge, experience and equipment to do this, so unless wolverine is a very competent mechanic it'd be a bit keen to recommend he rebuilds the engine himself. Guest Tayousei
Well, if it gives you a little courage, I rebuilt a 7mge (dreaded blown head gasket) when I was only 16, very little experience, almost no assistance from lazy family and all I needed was the shop manual, a boatload of tools we happen to have and time. If a 16yr old could do that, you can do this, I'm sure. The only real difference is there's a turbo too, but realistically that's like an extra hour or two of work, tops... After it's all torn out, just consult some competent mechanics on odds and ends, but otherwise follow your shop manual and save a ton of money. Good luck

I can't believe you guys are recommending for him to rebuild his engine on the driveway or in his home garage. If i had a workshop, a crane, an engine stand and the manuals i reckon it wouldn't be much of a problem. I would need lots and lots of time on my hands though to make sure when i worked on the car i could have a good run at it each time. There can be no messing about with cleanliness when building one of these engines, changing a headgasket is a different kettle of fish to rebuilding right down to the crank and bearings. wolverine
beleive me i aint gonna try i have spoken to the dealer and i am taken it to the garage for them to look at, the one thing he did say though if it was the big end the oil light would be on its not come on at all . is this true or is he pulling my fat hairy leg
dr_jekyll
well if the big end went due to running out of oil then yes, if the big end went because he incorrectly torqued up the bolts of wrongly alinged the shells then no.
Homer
well if the big end went due to running out of oil then yes, if the big end went because he incorrectly torqued up the bolts of wrongly alinged the shells then no. Although they might be referring to low oil pressure rather than level, however as mentioned a poor build, particuarly one which was done in an unclean enviroment would be enough to damage the shells, bearing and a lot else. Sounds like they are trying to get out of it, or are completely incompetent!
movistar
just had a listen to your vid and if you carry on driving it like that your gonna throw a rod soon.....big end definitely! you might be looking at a crank regrind too..... Not gonna be cheap 4 you mate :-(
wolverine
no cars off the road and at the garage with them checking it over i just hope that it done soon and still on steady ground who will pay for it
pistonbroke
Fingers crossed for you mate. I don't think you'll have a problem with them carrying out or paying for the repair, your biggest problem from where I'm standing is WHO is carrying out the work. 12 months down the line, you don't want this to happen again.
