Okay, the update which I promised, original thread here for those that missed it

http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=188952

Well the weed/plants have been in for about a week and a half and doubled in size already:blink:

and added 3 new fish today. The pictures don't do the colour justice and they are Red Severums

They are only about 3 inches at the moment, but can reach about 8-10 inches.

They come from the Amazon basin and can look after themselves, but are generally not aggressive, unless mixed with small bite size fish:eyebrows:

but the tank should of been £1000, 3x Severum £90, also a mix of catfish, plec's loach's etc to keep tank clean about £200.

2x packs of 10 plants £20.

Plus about another £200 on gravel, chemicals, slate, etc

These are the kind of thing i want when i get a bigger tank. Im sick of boring fish.

Yours looks great :) Good work

I want some large scholes of things. And some bigger more brightly coloured and unusual things.

Have a search for malawi cichlids, they are fantastic fish, a little aggresive but very colourful and inquisative fish, i used to own some and would love to get some more.

Do some homework on Cichlids and Severum, there are some nice fish out there.

I went for severum because they are less distructive than most Cichlids, but still intelligent like Oscars.

Scholing fish can be a problem with Ciclids, as they tend to be bit size:blink:

I really want a large marine setup so i can have a lionfish!

You have to have plenty of time for Marine set ups

:wave:hi rog how long before they are big enough to BBQ:eyebrows:

Not till after the summer, so maybe the George Foreman grill would be better;)

I've just got rid of about 40 Malawi to go down this route. They are very hardy fish, but no character at all.

very nice mate, got some new fish for my tropical tank today.

It's always nice when you get new fish:D

I wonder what would happen if you put some cichlids in...

lol been serious nice fish man, Any other pics of the other ones you have in your tank?

Knowing how greedy Cichlids are they would proberbly eat the rest of the sandwich before you got it to your mouth:D

I will try and get a couple of photos of the other fish, but most are hidden under rocks and things.

Generally don't get to see them much:rolleyes:

I have just stared keeping Malawi's, wouldn't say they have no character, at least they don't sulk like Oscars;)

Never kept Severums though, always classed them along with Angel's and and Discus I'm afraid, but fish keeping is all about personal taste after all:)

I wouldn't write off Malawi, I had them for several years, but I wouldn't class them as having much character, they just rush to were they think they are going to be feed. Bit like me I suppose:blink:

Severums don't really compare to Angel's or Discus, they will feed from your hand and even recognise individual people.

They are nowhere near as tempremental or skitish as discus, they are interested in anything going on in the tank or in there eyeline from the tank.

I have noticed already, when I am sat on the computer, they tend to hang around in the bit of the tank beside me:D

A few pics of a couple of the other fish.

Jen went and spent a lot of money on this Royal Plec but to many ££'s

Another rare plec, can't remember what it's called

image

Some large Clown Loach, 6 in all, between 6 inches and 9 inches ish, not the best pics as they were a bit manic waiting to be feed

image

these are baby fish similar to plecs and will grow to about 7 inches and be black with yellow dots, apparently very good at cleaning the algae of the glass

and thats all I have got pics of at the moment,

wow that plec is stunning. :) I have an albino one that looks a bit scary :p Im just setting up my new 126L tank at the moment. But i have to find a new cabinet to sit it on first!

Just make sure the cabinet is strong enough and won't bow. If it bow's you might get a leak through the seals and that won't be good on a 126l tank:blink:

Just found these and my fish supplier thinks he can get them from Holland, have to have about 6-8 as they prefer to be in groups and apparently will be a great match for the Severums, but might be a bit pricey thou

I love these fish setup threads, do you guys who have them find looking at them is relaxing, or after a while do you not notice they're there?

Bit of both to be honest, some types of fish are fairly intelligent and will feed from your hand. They tend to have there own characteristics too.

They are very relaxing though and don't cost anything in kennel fees when we go abroad;)
