cheekymonkey
I had a small accident in my Supra 2 years ago which resulted in a 50/50 claim. Now in the last week I've have three separate calls from ambulance chasing companies wanting to make sure that I've claimed everything I possibly can from it! Is there some sort of register of accidents these people are trawling? I was polite but firm with the first one that it was all done and dusted but they were very persistent. I just hung up on the last one. Anyone else having this happen? Odd that it's just started out of the blue after 2 years!
Carl_S
Sorry that this has happened to you sounds annoying. Maybe there is a release of information after two years? Not sure how to explain it, desperate financial times so that companies resort to these agressive measures. Very unlike me, but I have begun to lie to unwanted callers, at the door or on the phone. No I am not the homeowner. No I am too busy right now, could you call back tomorrow at five? It's going against my principles but just saves some time and effort. Delete yourself from the marketing lists.
stevie_b
I wasn't aware of such a register. I heard from somewhere that people have up to 2 years to start a claim for loss or injury from an accident, so maybe the ambulance chasers are trying to sneak in a few days before the 2-year deadline. Does the exact day of the accident back this up?

Aero-M
I have received a couple of text mesages a week, for the last couple of weeks. They have said: "Our records indicate you maybe entitled to 5000 pounds in compensation for the accident you had" I had a bad bike accident in 1999!, wasn't my fault and was all dealt with. They can't have records of this from 10 years ago, must be some kind of fiddle.
Angarak
If you've been involved in an accident involving a vehicle I think you have upto 3 years to claim unless your under 18, in which case your '3 year claim period' only starts once you turn 18. I think this ties in with the police retaining a full accident report (apparently worthless since they rarely seem to complete them properly!) for 3 years before they destroy it (keeping only a partial copy which isnt helpful in any claim). I could be wrong, but when I was younger I hit a 15yr old girl crossing a dual carriageway (entirely her fault with witnesses to prove it). I was cleared by the police of any fault and I thought that was the end of it. Nearly 6 years later I get a letter from a solicitor claiming on her behailf for £120,000 in damages. Since my witnesses could no longer be traced, the full police report was destroyed, and I can barely remember what I ate last week, let alone remember facts such as speeds, distances, lighting, conditions of some 6 years ago my insurance company (at the time of the accident) settled outside of court by paying her 50% of her initial claim! She better have a limp for the rest of her life!

He asked me as i was walking pas if i had been in an accident. I just sneared at him and carried on walking. Scum of the earth. I dont know how anyone can do that job knowing they are essentialy taking advantage of people. Somtimes i wish i was a judge then i could tell these people where to stick it. Easy money for her, in return for having the road sense of a peanut. I agree that ambulance chaser firms are real scum. They could clean up their act a bit by not marketing as aggresively. They're largely responsible for turning our society into a litigious cesspit where people are either looking for someone to sue for anything that happens to them, or desperately trying to cover their asses with legal clauses to defend against the greedy plaintiffs I mentioned above. cheekymonkey
I've had a couple more of these calls last week. I tried to ask a few more questions this time and the company calling me were calling on behalf of a bike insurance firm that I do not have insurance with. I think what is happening is that when you fill in a car/bike insurance quote form online all this information gets sold, and if you've said that you've had a claim, these companies then sell your details to 3rd party ambulance chasers. So - moral of the story is only go to reputable insurance brokers online and read the T&Cs before filling all those boxes in!
