gavin.starr Posted June 26, 2009 Share Posted June 26, 2009 i have a problem on my calibra 16v red top where knock sensor one keeps reporting a fault. its not the sensor itself as it is a brand new sensor, ive had the fault cleared from the ecu memory but it still keeps on popping the engine management light up on my dash and reporting the same knock sensor fault. i have checked the wiring and there is no problems associated with that. is there any thing i can look at to try and get to the source of the problem. ive asked on the calibra owners club but response times on there are very slow and im getting a bit narked with this fault and need some info. if any one has any info regarding knock sensors and fault finding that would be amazing. cheers gav Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
nevins Posted June 26, 2009 Share Posted June 26, 2009 Speaking with experience of this fault make sure you were supplied with the correct sensor and not the newer version as this is often the case with parts suppliers and make sure you do not over tighten it as its meant to be a certain torque setting cant really remember but don't hold me to it 20nm. also check the plug on the loom as a common problem is water damage from the coolant hose Y shaped i think. gavin.starr Posted June 26, 2009 Author Share Posted June 26, 2009 where is the best place to go for the sensor vauxhall or anothere supplier. if its not the sensor is there anything in the engine that needs to be assessed that could be triggering the sensor, i think but im not sure but the sensors are constantly monitoring the detination rates and times of the pistons/fuel, could there be somthing wrong with the firing times that may need to be looked at. cheers for the response gav Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
nevins Posted June 26, 2009 Share Posted June 26, 2009 Honestly vauxhall is who I always use, and your engines timing for fuel and ignition is done by the cam and crank sensor and the knocks for adjustment. If you can get the resistance of both these sensors checked as if the crank sensors dieing it will bring up the knock sensor as a fault also the engine will still run if this is the case as it will run off the cam sensor they fairly similar in there jobs they are both magnetic pick up sensors. Coils are also problematic on the redtop and also the tensioner on the timing belt likes to slacken itself Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

nevins Posted June 26, 2009 Share Posted June 26, 2009 not really as they are known for the wrasp lol, Easiest way to tell if your cats die is either put it up on a ramp and hit it with palm of your hand and listen for loose bits or the more technical get an emission test on it and another thing with them is the exhaust rot to hell and back on flange welds and around the silencer Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
