cheekymonkey
Hi All I know a lot you advocate stock wheels on the supra. I'm thinking of getting a set for track and/or drag use, and wondered what the advantages are? My 18s are 275mm wide on the back, does this give an advantage on drag strip / normal driving / or what? I always thought wider tyres = better grip but I guess this is not always the case. James
JamieP
Track wheels wont be any good on the drag strip and vice versa, you will need a set of each bud.

So what would be better on the track - going thinner on the rear or keeping what I have?

Id keep what you have for the street and track and get some weld 15" rear wheels for the strip like these:d http://s30.photobucket.com/albums/c338/jamie450x/?action=view¤t=welddragwheels007.jpg
cheekymonkey
They look the business! Where'd you get them from, and what's the width on them? I have UK rear brakes though.. hehe
pedrosixfour
My supe came with 16" rims. I got 2 sets of 17" rims, Volks and Works, for track use. Its now a track car and I have UK spec brakes to fit. I was going to put a wide tyre with a high profile on the stock 16" rear for drag use, if I ever get to a drag strip with it, and I was going to use the stock front rim and tyre on the back for any drifting I might get a chance to do. As far as I'm aware the stock 16" rear rims will clear UK rears and I'm hoping the stock fronts will do likewise.

AlexM
Stock 16" wheels won't fit over UK rears (or fronts), I tested it on Bignum's car at Llandow.

pedrosixfour
Ah nuts. I'm clutching at straws here I know but is it the lack of diameter that hinders fitment or is it an issue with the spokes because I have a nice set of hubcentric spacers at my disposal if they would help. Chingy
I have a nice set of hubcentric spacers at my disposal if they would help. with 25mm spacers you should clear the rear UK brakes, Edited June 25, 2009 by Chingy (see edit history)
