ClaireRZ-S
Right folks just need some help with this , i've never set a website up on my own so not sure how it works. I understand that you need a domain name, hosting company to host your site and then you need vbulletin. I'm stuck on how you get it fully together? I know you upload this through a FTP application but you need to have PHP and MySql Engine to hold the VBulletin data correct? I'm stuck on the PHP and MySql stuff. Can anyone help? mawby
If it's a hosted site you will probably need your host to sort out the mySQL database and PHP configuration.

Yeah there is a guy my bf knows that is hosting it i assumed that he will sort this out then its a case of uploading VB to the web server correct?? mawby
Upload and run the installer. Easy peasy. Then you need to worry about the millions of different settings and ways of configuring it.
ClaireRZ-S
yes easy for you i assume in say smart ftp you upload to public_html and then the folder you uploaded you rename it to say forum yes? How do you install it then
mawby
Correct. At this point (without sounding rude) I would advise you read the instructions that come with vB otherwise we're going to be here a while.

ClaireRZ-S
Thanks Mawby just another quick question are headers hard to upload??? I know someone who can design one
mawby
Headers? Do you mean templates, styles or just a banner? All are easy to upload but templates and styles can be time consuming to make especially as they might need updating every time you update the forum software. Branners
Just do you know, Mawbs does a huge amount of updating and tinkering with this forum to keep it running and up to date. If you dont run the updates and keep the forum right up to date then the script kiddies out there will be on the forum and take it apart quite quickly. If you are only running a small forum then I would perhaps look at a less well known bit of software, or find a company that fully hosts and updates for you.
