IceMan
Hi, My car: Japanese Toyota Supra Twin Turbo JZA80 (silver) from 1993. Automatic transmission. Stock spec (includes cats), though has nice alloys. My facts: I use the car to commute to and from work mainly so I'm not desperate to increase its performance or remove the cats yet. My questions: 1. I need to get hold of a Toyota Supra manual. Where's best to get one from? Toyota say they can't even get one for a 1999 Supra... 2. I live in North Devon. There are NO Shell stations in North Devon (which = no Optimax). What other types of Super Unleaded are good enough to be used in a Jap TT Supra? 3. With regard to (2) above, what type of octane boost should I use if I have to emergency buy regular RON95 Unleaded? And where is best to buy octane boost from? 4. What type of oil and other fluids should I use? 5. I can see a handle for Transmission Fluid in the engine. Where do you put in Transmission Fluid if it's low? 6. How often should the car be tuned? 7. I've heard that the service interval is 6,000 miles or 12 months - is this correct? 8. The SVA place did a meagre job on the speedo conversion. I'm getting the sorted (+ derestriction soon) but I'm concerned that the Odometer is now reading miles BUT started with KM on the clock (meaning I've gained an extra 20,000 miles). Are there places that can reprogram the odometer properly? 9. I'm considering getting a Bomex aerokit. I've noticed it's just over £500 in Japan for the front, side skirts and rear under bumper, however the cheapest I can get these for in the UK is £1,100 - does anyone know any places that'd sell them cheaper? 10. What places do people recommend for tuning/doing work on Supras (other than basic service)? Are there any in the South-West area (I've been told about Wincanton Motor Services). 11. Anything else I should know about?! Thanks in advance for any help, Ice
Branners
In answer to 2) If the car is standard then you can run 95 octane in it (UL). The ECU does learn what fuel it has and can retune if theres better fuel so 97 octane Super Unleaded (SUL) will give better performance. As you increase the power so SUL becomes essential. Optimax gives just that little bit extra performance and safety margin, but before Optimax everybody ran SUL without any major problems, so SUL is fine. matt
5, Down the dipstick that the 'handle' is sitting in May I suggest the search function?? You'll dig up much more info than this thread will realise
IceMan
Thanks for the help so far. I thought it'd be easier to ask all my questions in one as it took a while to search for the right info and often it is more technical than I can understand. Hope you can understand my reasoning (I have used Search already). As for my number 1 question: I have found a company called JPNZ who translate original Japanese car manuals to English. Anyone know if these manuals are good? http://www.jpnz.co.nz (they are New Zealand based, though there are companies in the UK who resell their manuals). Otherwise keep the replies coming, it's all useful to me. Ice

Terminator
Question 1 There are many manuals, go to MKIV.com and most of the good pages are on line. Juist ask onhere on here for the slight differences between Jap and US in some instances. Otherwise keep your eyes open, they do pop up for sale every now and again. Digsy
1. I need to get hold of a Toyota Supra manual. Where's best to get one from? Toyota say they can't even get one for a 1999 Supra... The handbook is also a good place to start if you don't have one. These are freely available from Toyota, but will refer to a UK spec car. 6. How often should the car be tuned? 7. I've heard that the service interval is 6,000 miles or 12 months - is this correct? The "by the book" service interval for your car is every 6000 miles or 12 months. The whole schedule changed in 1994 to 9000 miles AABAAB. Beware: although Toyota calls them A and B services, every service is different. Again, the handbook will have details. At least one BBS member is running a 1993 car on the 1994 schedule with no problems. Most TT owners also add at least an oil and filter change at 4500 miles, which seems like a good idea to me. There must be three or four current threads about this. There seems to be a spate of botched speedo / odo conversions going on. Have a read or search in the Technical forum and see what you turn up. 11. Anything else I should know about?! Watch the back end!!
