dr_jekyll
i have had some strange behaviour from my car lately. firstly it blew the weld on the down pipe , so today i welded the downpipe and refited to the car, after driving the car home it started smoking badly (blue smoke) i checked the oil and it was on 3/4 full and it was full on monday, so first i thaught head gasket but no oil in water no water in oil. ? secondly i thaught valve stem seals , but it dosent puff wen i start it . thirdly i thaught turbo oil seal so i took the car for a run to emulate the terrible smoking but this time no smoke? so i took it up on boost and still no smoke i even left it idleing for 10 mins and nothing , as clean as a whistle . any ideas on what could have caused that thik blue smoke and why it may have stoped? could the downpipe being freshly welded have caused it ??? just rechecked the oil after an houre for it to settle and it has NOT lost oil, so now im even more confused Edited June 24, 2009 by dr_jekyll (see edit history)
AlanM
Did you quench the downpipe in anything to cool it down after welding?

Chris Wilson
As in piston rings, bore damage, piston ring land damage (detonation?).
dr_jekyll
if the piston rings or bore damage was my problem would i be losing performance? and compression
Chris Wilson
Possibly, I can have a look at it for you if you want, and do a full leakdown and borescope test.
Tricky-Ricky
If its intermittent, then my money is on turbo seals.
