JohnA
I've been through all old posts on the subject, and failed to find them. I'm looking for AmpereHours, that sort of thing. Are they a Toyota sercret or something? (like the composition of ATF type IV)? I know about the badass Halfrauds battery, it's the one on my car and it's clapped out (6 months later) Haven't got a receipt though, previous owner bought it. LeeT
to be honest you may as well replace it with another halfords battery. the hcb005 comes with a 5 year warranty so if it knackers again just keep the receipt. its been fine on my uk auto
JohnA
so I take that noone knows the Ah rating of the stock battery? sheesh.... The reason is that they sell really good Bosch batteries at CostCo (Supra not mentioned on their catalog though) and I'd prefer to go for one of those instead of the Halfrauds item (which I don't trust anymore)
merckx
If you want one with plenty power, get something like 70AH and 600A C.C. I'm sure the specs of the Halfords one are marked on the top if you want to compare. I didn't fancy a Halfords one, I bought a Deta battery - German 74AH,680 CC One thing to bare in mind though is to get one which is the right height so the battery clamp holds it in place. Mine wasn't as deep so I had to modify the clamp.
Sharpie
I think the tech specs for the haulfrauds one is in the tech FAQ's I'm sure IanC started the thread ?? You might want to take the dimensions of Bosch batteries before you buy unless you intend to mod'd the tray or brackets in the bay ?? The battery I got from Toyota in 02 or 03 for the soop was not a powerful as the haulfrauds one.

JohnA
If you want one with plenty power, get something like 70AH and 600A C.C. well I'll try to go for the biggest capacity for the same external dimensions. 70Ah at least. I'm sure the specs of the Halfords one are marked on the top if you want to compare. Well they're not. Would I be starting a thread asking for the specs if my current battery had them stamped on top? JohnK
A bit late I know but ive just come across my original Toyota battery. It has a sticker that says 60 amp/hours on it. Hope that helps.
JohnA
60AH, thanks for that. The replacement I got was Bosch, just over 60Ah so within this spec. Only problem was that it is a bit shorter than the original, 10mm maybe a bit more, so I used a piece of timber as a spacer to make the battery holder work. Cost me only £35, I wasn't paying £65 or whatever Halfrauds ask for a replacement, and the thieving pikeys won't even swap it for a new one without their written 'warranty', as if their stamp all over the battery doesn't indicate it's one of their own (it's around 6 months old and shot ) They pretend that they can't make out the date of production from the digits on the battery, yeah right, so they refuse to change it point blank. The moron who sold me the car had lost the receipt, so think about this people before shelling out on Halfrauds...
MONKEYmark
halfords not all bad. eyefi took a battery back to them and they gave him a battery to use while they tested his battery out then he went to get a new battery off him and they did not ask for the one they lent him. i paid about £34 or so for my battery 360amps they measure them different. some do it over 30 seconds some do it over 1min. the 360amp one i bought tested to 495amps. i have been few a few batterys on cars. this one is a slim type with uk terminals and only weighs in at 12kg or 26.4 lb some weight saving too. does weight not come into it? you could buy an expensive yellowtop battery for £150 with 1 year g/tee or buy a cheaper one every year if you need to. JohnA
halfords not all bad. eyefi took a battery back to them Well I took it back to them 2 weeks ago and they refused point-blank even to look at it without me having a special 'warranty' or something. I think that's a shoddy practice for an overpriced own-brand item that goes wrong so quickly within it's lifespan. But that's just me, other people are less fussy and are happy to shell out again for what turns out to be an inferior product. Maybe I was unlucky in that this specific battery came from a faulty batch or whatever, however that is what warranties are for. Anyway, without proof of purchase I didn't have a leg to stand on, and the manager knew it very well.
MONKEYmark
i had a new one on before and car was stood 5 months in body shop it killed my battery would not hold charge for more than 1 day. do you know how much the halfords one weighs. i have seen a battery of 6kg in weight with enough to crank car over if you looking into weight saving. i would not take it back too without no papers. get a new one bought you tight arse lol
JohnA
do you know how much the halfords one weighs. my back does, because when I lifted it I underestimated the weight and heard a 'clonk' i have seen a battery of 6kg in weight with enough to crank car over if you looking into weight saving. aye, with all the accessories and stuff, you want a big, heavy battery or else risk being left stranded after a long break. It's strange how mister "T" failed to fit a voltage gauge on these cars, it would have been useful. i would not take it back too without no papers. Well I tried my luck since it's an own-brand product, I always try to find a shred of decency in people/companies, I'm an old-fashioned fool, I know... get a new one bought you tight arse lol see above
CJ
I use the Halfords one too and have nothing but praise for the people I deal with at Didcot. Oh, and BTW John, your comment of: "But that's just me, other people are less fussy and are happy to shell out again for what turns out to be an inferior product" doesnt relate to me. I too will not accept shoody service or goods but there again, maybe my attitude is different to you when I go to complain as I seem to succeed every time. JohnA
..maybe my attitude is different to you when I go to complain as I seem to succeed every time. Maybe you're blessed with Charisma oozing out of your pores:stickpoke and I'm a Victor Meldrew character, happy now? Alternatively, maybe some branches are less helpful than others, the Thurrock one being under a chavalanch lately (so they chose to interpret company policy rather more strictly) Or both.
