Holden1989
Splendid So how much horse power does a horse actually have? Funny, iv often wondered what sort of horse the horse power is measured with, at the moment the yard has 6 horses, i wouldnt say six horse power as there all ponies apart from mine, My horse i would imagine is around 0.8, as she isnt the biggest/strongest horse you could get Dyno anyone
Mike
Horsepower The development of the steam engine provided a reason to equate the output of horses with the engines that could replace them. In 1702, Thomas Savery wrote in The Miner's Friend: "So that an engine which will raise as much water as two horses, working together at one time in such a work, can do, and for which there must be constantly kept ten or twelve horses for doing the same. Then I say, such an engine may be made large enough to do the work required in employing eight, ten, fifteen, or twenty horses to be constantly maintained and kept for doing such a work..." Digsy
Looks lovely So what kind of horses / riders do you have at your yard? Is it mainly happy hackers or do you have any people seriously into dressage or jumping? My girlfriend shares a horse at a local livery stables (I guess they have about 20 horses there) and they have a sort of resident coach who turns up every few days to give lessons in their schooling area. I'm not sure what the arrangement is with th eyard owners but most of the owners there are bonkers for getting these lessons and the girl is usually booked solid. If she has to give a cut to the yard owners then it might be an additonal income. If you havn't laid out your school yet could you find room to extend it out the full 60m length? At the moment my liveries are pony club kids, nothing serious, i myself compete BSJA (Showjumping) and BE (British Eventing) quite succesfully, I am also qualified to teach which i will be starting up again now that the work at the yard has calmed down. I was going to go for the International size arena, but it would cost me around £32k atleast for surface alone, whereas if i go for the 50m x 30m it cuts down the cost of both the hardcore and the surface, i dont care about it being the perfect size, along as its big enough to jump 1.20m courses in im happy
Digsy
Cool I'll have to bend your ear for some freebie tips in that case! If I'm ever your way I'll have to pop in and fall off in your school, just to test the surface out
