Al Massey
Ive been using it for a while now and the only problem i have is that some sites i go onto i need to run in compatability mode to be more efficient. Other than that i think its great
RedM
Im an Internet Explorer fan, so dont suggest Opera or Mozzila or Firefox.... What about Google Chrome? I love it. It's fast and light. I can't wait for the Linux version.
ManwithSupra
I run 8 the only issue i have with it is the address bar when you click on it to look at a previous site your mouse usually hovers over the new "x" to delete the entry, and then when you think you are clicking the link you end up deleting it. merckx
It's useful for Ebay as you don't have to keep refreshing the screen to see the time left counting down and bids coming in.
Thorin
I've got it installed. Found a few sites that need to be run in "compatibility mode" which is a bit annoying. Firefox 3.5 is far superior in every way IMO, and that's before you even start with addons. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html

FF rules all day long with it's add-ins etc. It's useful for Ebay as you don't have to keep refreshing the screen to see the time left counting down and bids coming in. I thought that FF allows the automatic count down.. At least I thought my machine at home did this.. I might be mistaken, it has been known. stevie_b
Anyone know whether IE8 hogs more RAM than IE7? I'm installing XP on someone's PC and they've only got the bare minimum of RAM. I've googled it, but the results are conflicting. It *seems* that IE8 uses more RAM, which I guess isn't surprising. I could set up 2 virtual machines and test it, but was hoping someone would have the answer to hand.
caseys
Im an Internet Explorer fan, so dont suggest Opera or Mozzila or Firefox.... How about Safari 4? Or if you want to be truly hardcore - Lynx ? Going strong since 1992 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynx_(web_browser) Won't get much faster than that.

caseys
Lynx! Haven't heard that name for a while! Strictly for enthusiasts only! Ram usage is a minimum though. Also doesn't have issues with Flash or Javascript. Loads pages quite quickly too On a more serious note, I haven't really used IE since IE6 (which I have to use at work). Is IE7/8 really that bad on ram usage? I still use Safari mainly, if not Firefox with noscript installed. I don't like bloaty websites nor bloaty browsers

I don't know that IE7/8 is particularly bad on RAM usage per se, but I'm keen to find out which is best on RAM usage. I use Firefox 3 at work, and I find that it seems to hog resources quite a lot. For example, right now my firefox.exe process seems to be using 200MB of RAM. And I restarted it maybe 30 mins ago, so that's fairly low. I don't like bloaty websites nor bloaty browsers I couldn't agree more.
Snooze
IE is superior to everything in every way. You only have to look at the facts. Microsoft themselves have, very helpfully, collated the facts together here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/get-the-facts/browser-comparison.aspx I use firefox. Firefox 3.5 is supposed to be better http://tech.slashdot.org/story/09/06/20/1951212/Memory-Usage-of-Chrome-Firefox-35-et-al?art_pos=20 but I think 3.0 was pretty good in the first place. For a modern browser (multiple tabs, and back/forward history for them all, cache etc.) 200MB is not bad. You've got to remember it's hard to comparatively compare IE as it's so embedded in the OS that just going by the memory usage for iexplore.exe is not the full picture. Digsy
I must say I really don't get all the whole anti-IE thing. OK, so earlier versions had some pretty big security holes and there was that whole anti-trust thing, but I've used various verisons of IE every since I first wandered onto the net and I've never had any issues because of it. I've tried Firefox and while it worked fine I couldn't say that it was faster than IE in a way that made my quality of life drastically better. Plus having to make sure I have all the necessary dd-ons installed to make it perform as well as an out of the box IE install seemed a bit like the tail wagging the dog. My machines are never exactly "cutting edge" in terms of performance, and yet I can't say I've ever felt that running IE was hogging a load of system resources. I'm running IE7 and I'm very happy. Maybe I don't spend enough of my life on the web, or maybe I don't do to enough dodgy sites
Guest feranm_ie8team
Hi, this is Feran with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team. To learn more about IE8 you can check out the IEBlog - http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/. Also, here are some articles reviewing IE8’s enhanced security - From now until August 8, if you download IE8 from Microsoft will donate the equivalent of 8 meals to Feeding America. Thanks, Feran
Digsy
On the other hand, maybe ^^^that^^^ is why so many peple hate Microsoft.

michael
He's appeared on a few other forums I used day to day, the content on those tends to be quite specific to questions being asked and doesn't come across as being spam like this one does. Google his username, he's a busy boy (bot?).

Guest feranm_ie8team
Hi, this is Feran again. Just wanted to assure everyone I’m not a bot/spamming. I’m just here to help and direct people to some good places to learn more about IE8 and inform anyone interested in downloading it about the Feeding America donation. You may be surprised to learn just how many people right here in America struggle with food insecurity and hunger. You can learn more about it here: Thanks, -Feran
Snooze
Thanks, Feran. Can I hear more about these reach-arounds, please?
