What wider than stock tyre sizes on 17"

As I appear to have lost my michelin book of tyre sizes :( and am too lazy to work it all out ;)

I want to know what size tyres people are running (or are available) that are wider than 255 on 17's keeping the rolling radius (circumference) the same or there abouts.

I need to get some rears ASAP and im seeing what options I have.

Thanks, just what I was looking for. Seems 285/35 x 17 are hard to come by though :(
any wide tyre in a 17" are very expensive in a branded name. i have khomo supra 285x40x17 cheap as chips.

when i was asking round they were megabucks for wide 17" as not many make them that size 18`s and 19`s you had more choice

try a try called Neuman or Pnewman, Newman or something like that (sounds like Paul Newman!)- budget tyre made by Dunlop, had them on my rears, 80quid a corner, last forever and give great grip, i was well impressed, got them from local garage that was doing my MOT, bout the only good advice they ever gave me.

One chap on this forum has fitted 315's on the standard 17" rears, personally I've gone as high as 275/40 on the back and have run trackdays with 245/40 and 255/40 fronts, to be honest the best balance I've had on track is with stock sizes but I've yet to try 275 rears and normal sized fronts.

I wouldn't try to fit wider tyres in the same width rims

They don't sit properly.

Circumferance is not the only factor involved.

That's discarding the disadvantages of ultra-low tyre profiles.

my 285 sit perfect on stock supra 9" rims. done a day at elvington on track with no problems, well only i cat drive lol

There is an optimum range of tyre widths for each rim width. If you try to go away from this (usually upwards!) they kind of 'baloon' and don't sit properly.

But then again, why would tyre shops refuse to fit whatever the customer wants to whatever rim width they've already got? it's a free country, eh? :)

John, I agree with what your saying, the question has been asked before about the widest you can go on X width rim and it was said, by people I would trust - not average jo bloggs, 285s were safe.

However I would like to see some proper info on what width range of tyres will fit on what width rims.

I have now ordered a pair of F1's in stock 255 size from a local place at £110 each as I need them in a hurry.

You *do* know that wider wheels/tyres kill the wheel bearings sooner, right? Not to mention steering racks.

That's even when everything is properly aligned etc.

But then again I'm always gravitating towards the manufacturer's spec, except if I have good reason to believe that they've got it wrong (or my usage is totally different to what the designers had in mind)

Hey, I'm fitting stock 17"s when everybody comments on how nice the 18" look, so I'm tainted
