Homer
I need a new exhaust for the mondeo and as it's not worth a lot don't fancy spending a lot of money on one.. Does anyone have any recommendations for cheap systems, ideally mail order? I've got a few quotes for the two rear sections on the car (2.5 v6 98 mondeo): - Ford: £390 - Kwik fit: £280 - http://www.cats-direct-shop.co.uk : £88 delivered, WTF!! Are the online ones any use at all? The car only does 1-2k miles a year so just need something to pass the MOT. TIA!

DSK
The general ones that garages use are Bosal, personally we don't use them as we've had to send some units back as they have a small hole (to let out condensation) which rusts and enlarges in the rear slicencers. We like Walker exhausts, not much difference in price, but far better exhausts than the usual stuff like Timax and Bosal and the fit is always bang on regardless of car/make/model. Had one for years on an previous Celica and it was faultless. (We have had some cheaper exhausts from Eurocarparts for customers cars upon request, only to encounter issues with fitment, unsuitable manufacturing etc). As a cheap option, I would look at a Ford breakers! Fwiw, I used a BMW breaker to source a new CAT for my BMW after a garage wrongly diagnosed the cat! It may also be worth trying a local back street car repair garage or two and ask them to contact their trade suppliers and see what brand system they can supply at what price! First one looks good as it's for a Ghia X. The general ones that garages use are Bosal, personally we don't use them as we've had to send some units back as they have a small hole (to let out condensation) which rusts and enlarges in the rear slicencers. Thanks mate, I tried a couple of the local breakers but they didn't have anything in. The seriously cheap one in my first post is a Timax, it's only £65 plus VAT and postage so thought the price too good to be true for a new system. The current system is not repairable as it's been on there since new, it's well and truely dead, a total of 14 patches welded to it already (no joke!) DSK
Timax are OK, we fit those if we can't get the Walker systems. Got on on my mothers VW Golf, been on there for 2 years and its looking good. The fit was spot on as well and not had any issues with manufacturing or fitting on these either.
Homer
Thanks DSK for the advice, I went with the Timax option in the end. £88 delivered from http://www.cats-direct-shop.co.uk, was £200 cheaper than the next nearest quote too. Tried the guy you linked to on Ebay Jamie but it was pickup only. Worth a shot tho, thanks again.

Homer
New exhaust from the online shop turned up today. Removed the old one and fitted the new one in less than 20 mins. Fit was pretty good, just needed a slight adjustment to one of the heat shield (que hammer ) and a little trim of the bumper around the exit as it sits a little higher than the stock one. Still, not bad considering it was 440% cheaper than the stock one
Thorin
Cheers for the link for that site Homer, it's reminded me that Angela's Corolla needs the exhaust replacing. Much cheaper on there.... I just need to figure out which of the half a dozen different ones listed is the right one!
