What is with people wanting to race you when in a Supra?

Was out and about yesterday and today in the Supra (first time I have been out in it since purchase). Just taking it easy around town (20-30mph maximum) and just cruising along the motorway with cruise set to 87mph.

Around town, I have had almost every Ford Focus diesel, Audi A3's, Passats etc race off from traffic lights/roundabouts. As for tailgating this has not been too bad, just taxi drivers that are on a mission. I just drive sensibly and have nothing to prove and no intentions of d!cking about in busy areas with dense traffic. What makes me laugh is that thse idiots have diesels or normal cars, dirve like idiots for no reason, all they achieve is getting to the next set of lights and sitting there for ages before I come along as they turn green and the fact that they are burning more fuel than me.

On the motorway I had a number of normal Focus's, Vectras, etc just speeding up/slowing down repeatedly.... I was tempted to floor it and just dissapear out of their sights as this was starting to irritate me, however I kept my cool and turned the music up.

(Passed a few Subaru's and other nice cars like Boxters etc, here it was just a case of a friendly nod either way to say, 'nice car' with no agro or racing inclination.)

Do fellow members get Mr. Daily driver types in mundane cars trying to race or prove a point?

Trust me these were trying it on, really giving their cars the lot and only backing off a touch when realising I could not give a sh!t. Then tearing off like idiots, darting in and out of other traffic everytime the traffic in my lane lane caught them up

With one chap I could not refuse to give the car the full beans as we entered an empty dual carrigeway, the way it just reeled him in and tore past put the same grin on my face as a silly mph wheelie on a bike :D

I suspect they just want to see you give it the beans, knowing that you'll vanish into the distance.

The same reason I'd have no qualms about trying it on with something that I know will beat me by miles, I just love to see and hear them give it some.

Enjoy the opportunity to show off while you have it! Since getting the Aristo, nobody tries it on with me any more!

I know what you mean, I got my N/A Supra yesterday even though it's only a N/A it's attracted a fair bit of attention so far (haven't been insured for over 2 1/2 years so had to go N/A cause lost my no claims :( would not of got insured on a TT at the moment got quoted by one company 5400 on the NA no joke, and wanted some money spare incase of any costs I might incur couldn't have done that getting a TT so would of been buggered if something did go wrong) (went to santa pod today was good first time have been :) ).

I've had many people come flying past me on the outer-lane after seeing my car in the same kind of cars you mentioned fair enough, just do what your doing if anything they'll just go there own way/spee after a while.

As for tailgating I have to go to work tomorrow first time in the new car, and many a chav in a corsa feel it's obviously worthwhile to be 1-2 metres away from the back of your car going through a village at 30mph and then do the same on the country roads, well at least for me so with the Supra there going to molest me I feel :|

I mostly felt the same when driving the supra about, but after a 6 years eventually realised it was 90/10 for the cause...

90% being in my head, i.e. you could be driving anything and the other party would drive the same way. I still get the same tailgaters and have-a-go people, but am only driving a mondeo :D After selling the supra it didn't take long to realise that there was little difference in other peoples behaviour on the road. I think that stepping into something a little out of the norm just makes you many times more aware of other drivers behaviour around you.

10% being people trying to get you to react or just being an arse

You're doing it all wrong mate, drive it like you stole it everywhere:D

Or do it like this :D Which, quite honestly I did most of the time.

Homer, you could be right, but I drive the BMW and Volvo as my regular cars and rarely the Supra and 996, but in the Supra the way some people were driving was not how you seem some people whizzing about, they clearly appeared to be the 1 up manship types.

Guest Rays the roof

Pulled up at traffic lights last night and a guy in a Ferrari Enzo wound down his window and said I will race you to the next set of lights for £50.

I thought definately!

Well I won my £50, but recon he would have had more chance if he wasn't wearing cowboy boots and tight jeans. I had a pair of shorts and trainers on...:D:p:D

I never get anything try it on or if they are trying it on I cant tell!

I suspect half of them start 'trying it on', but then midway through the manoeuvre split into a small work group to discuss where the AbFlug lines are right for the Supra? :D
