Engine Mount Questions

Scooter

Recommended Posts

I think my new TT has a noisy engine mount. Its a manual facelift and so from looking through old threads its to be expected and it fits in with the supraforums guys description of noises on low speed directional changes and occasionally on pulling away from a standstill.

I have an old engine mount of the same type from the spares bin and have attached a picture.

I read about measuring the gap in the mount and that it should be at least 50 thou (1.2-3mm). Can anyone 100% confirm, as thats what i measured (tight on driverside mount), that this is the gap between the triangle metal base part (that rests on the subframe) and the lower metal cup.

Secondly when i grip the mount, with the bakelite part in one hand and the metal part in the other i can rotate them a few degrees and it knocks/rattles when i do so..........is this how they are new or is it as i suspect knackered too?

cheers for that, thought so.........it seems like the metal to plastic/rubber/bakelite bond has gone and i wouldn't be suprised to find the one on the car is the same.

Currently weighing up the prospect of changing these myself compared to letting whifbitz do them :)
