Yaz
Hello guys, I have a 93 NA and recently all of a sudden had a problem with it. I was away on holiday and the car was parked up for five weeks. When I got back, the car wouldn't start as the battery was totally dead. Used jump leads to start it and then the car was running perfectly fine for two weeks. Then one day, as I got ready to reverse it onto the drive, it stalled. Took ages to start it and kept stalling as if there was no power. Now, it is a mission to start and when it does start, it just about idles. If I let go of the accelerator, the engine cuts out. It pours out black smoke out of the exhaust, and is now over fueling too. Two days ago, I noticed the warning lights on the right hand side were not coming on ignition, so took the dash panel off thinking the bulbs had blown. The plug socket was loose and when I tighetened it, they started working. The car suddenly started perfectly fine and was idling normally. I took it for a drive and it drove beautifully again, no warning lights. I was surprised, but this lasted only for fifteen minutes as when I parked the car up and restarted it, it is now doing the same thing. Now, the engine management light stays on constantly when the car is running. I was told it could be the cat needing changing, as well as the dizzy cap and rotar arm. Basically, the symptoms are very poor and rough idling; stalling; black smoke; loss of power; hesitation on acceleration. What could it be? pistonbroke
Are you saying the multiplug was loose behind the dash? Usually, the reason the lights don't work in the dash is due to dry joints in ther solder. I can't see how any of this would affect the running of the car. I've run my car fine without any of that stuff plugged in.
Yaz
yeh i think it is the multi plug, but like you say I can't see that being the problem. I just can't seem to figure out why the car is doing what is it...

Yaz
cheers heckler, have read that, will go and try it now. thanx
Yaz
Right, did the paper clip thing, and it went blink, pause, blink blink, which I interpret to be 12. It only did this once, and won't do it anymore. However, the book says 12 is trouble area for Crankshaft Position Sensor, Starter or ECU. I have typed up in google bad symtoms of each, and it appears that the symptoms of a crankshaft position sensor are the car stalling, loss of power, effecting the fuel injectors (which would explain the over fueling). Thank you for your help guys and Heckler, will let you know once I sort it out.
