jim Posted June 19, 2009 Share Posted June 19, 2009 Afternoon I'm after a caliper refurb kit for my rear j-spec n/a caliper, I've just tried Steve Manley but he's off until next week. I'm not sure how many piston's worth you get in a kit, but if anyone's got the parts to do 2 pistons left over I'd be interested in taking them. Failing that I'll give Steve a shout when he's back. BillyC Posted June 20, 2009 Share Posted June 20, 2009 You get the following mate if I recall: 2 new boots and seals for the sliders 2 rubber seals for inside the piston chambers 2 gasket seals for the pistons 2 retaining clips for the piston seals 2 bleed nipple covers 6/8 replacement washery type things (cant remember exactly) grease for sliders and pistons I think thats it mate. Pretty easy to do. I got a complete set for £17 off a lad on Ebay (still sealed). About £35 quid from Toyota. I'm picking up a second set to do the spare calipers I have after I've spruced thm up. Brakes are my only complaint about the supra in three years of ownership, don't know how many replacement calipers I've gone through over those years, all 4 have been replaced at some point, but hopefully refurbing them will sort it. BillyC Posted June 22, 2009 Share Posted June 22, 2009 Yeah mate... the find was totally by accident too, which is even better :-) I started off just doing a rear pad change. Realised one caliper was seized, and the sliders on both were stiff as hell. Then thought sod it - gonna change the discs as well. The discs I took off are still decent as well I think. The refurb - like most of the jobs when you've done them once- really is a piece of piss. Cleaning them up was the biggest pain. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
jim Posted June 30, 2009 Author Share Posted June 30, 2009 Forgot to say, in case anyone's interested, the entire kit to do a jspec front and back (both sides as I understand it) came to £73ish inc vat and delivery from Steve. I've not done the refurb yet, but am kicking myself that I didn't do this originally when my calipers first started giving me bother, I've replaced each of them at least once with second hand calipers and by now could probably have had a uk set up with the money I've spent on the replacements over the past few years.
