Kev_A
Had this problem since I got my car, never been able to figure out what causes it, car seems to idle at around 700-800RPM when cold then raises ever so slightly when warm, if you raise the RPM to around 1000 it smoothes out and the vibration disappears, obviously this is not a solution though. Also worth noting is that the car seems to "search" for the right RPM, I.E it fluctuates ever so slightly. Vibration get's worse when car is in drive. I've been told that cleaning the Idle control valve may help, can anyone show me where this is located, how to remove (if necessary) and what to use to clean it. Also, if not this, then what else could be causing this?

Havard
engine mounts. Are you serious?? I would imagine it will be the ICV or the throttle body may be full of cack. Have you checked the fuel filter?? Does it seem to be down on power generally or do you just have a lumpy idle? H.
Supranature
NA or TT, as the valve is in different places.
Kev_A
It's a '96 pre-facelift Auto TT, General running seems fine, no loss of power etc. just this annoying vibration on idle, as per my 1st post really. I could clean the TB too, but again, any advice on how to would be great
Bossco
Kev, my idle was all over the place due to dirty plugs and a dirty O2 sensor in the down pipe. Cleaned them up and it was perfect.
Terminator
I does sound like an IAC problem. As you are using the throttle to control air flow so the IAC ceases to be part of the mixture equation. The one on the back of the plenum on the TT is a little difficult to get at IIRC. My Auto TT was doing the same just before we pulled the engine out. I tried to use my IAC on my new plenum, but the motor was screwed, so had to get a new one. Hopefully your problem will just involve a bit of a clean. Edited June 18, 2009 by Terminator (see edit history)
Kev_A
Well it can't be dirty plugs as they're brand new iridiums. So is it worth maybe cleaning the o2 sensor, throttle body and idle control valve? Can any of you tell me how to remove/get at all of these and what products and techniques to use? Also is it work cleaning the Throttle body and o2 sensor at the same time? Do I just need one product to clean? and what would that product be?
