fitting thermostat

Recommended Posts

I took my radiator out today as my new one is coming at the end of the week :) and am fitting a TRD thermostat as part of the job!

Looking at part diagrams and threads on here i am assuming that i follow the bottom radiator hose back and its casing is there, but i had a quick look and it seems to be buried deep into everything!

Which isnt good as this is the first major job i have done on the supra!

So all i am wondering is if there is anything i need to take out to gain access better as i would like to do this whole job myself.

Thanks

Andrew

Is the rad in as-new condition (and I really mean that), otherwise, it'll split. If you want to go this route you'll need to change the rad cap to a 1.3 bar one as well, otherwise you're asking for trouble. There are many, many threads here about split stock rads when raising the water pressure, usually due to replacement 1.3 bar rad caps, but the termostat is going to have a similar effect.

Take out whatever you need to do the job mate, some jobs are easy, some jobs will have you close to tears.

Others you have to make the tools to complete the job, don't forget that engines are first assembled on a production line with access from every angle and no thought is given over to ease of maintenance in the ensueing years

Thats mechanics for you. I should know, 30 years old with the shading of a badger!!

I have bought a brand new radiator and the stock radiator cap apparently fits it so hoping to keep the pressure at stock levels for fear of popping my heater matrix

But what i cannot see is where the thermostat is located as it seems to go into a tangle of wires and pipes underneath the turbos (Thants if i am looking in the right place).

I was just wondering if any one has any advice on how to get into the location a bit easier, maybe by removing the air box or by removing the intercooler pipe. I just dont want to have to take parts out that i dont need to

Thanks
