pedrosixfour
Evening folks, The power steering on my car is a little strange at the moment in so far as although it hasn't stopped working altogether it has become a great deal heavier while car is sat idling. At the moment my entire dash is out of my car because I was getting a roll cage fitted, might the problem be due to the lack of signals from the dash to the power steering? I know there are several other reasons for heavy steering but I can see no tell-tale leaks, hoses are all fine, fuse is ok. The only thing I haven't checked are the vacuum hoses, are these relevant on my car? ('95 SZ-R) Thank you for any input.
JustGav
When you say you have the dash out, does that include the speedo cluster, because the power steering is speed sensitive and uses the stock speed sensor.

JustGav
Yes mate, the whole shagging lot! Well, that won't help... but why are you driving the car without the dash in anyway...
pedrosixfour
I'm not Gav, I just haven't got around to re-fitting it yet. I'm building a track car so the dash came out to fit a weld-in roll cage. I was doing a few other bits and pieces on it and when I was moving it around I realised I couldn't just 'palm' the steering wheel as I could before. Just want to know is there a possibility that the lack of a dash and cluster could be responsible for this unwelcome development in an already stressful build!! Okay, fair point, I just had this image of a dashless car out and about on the road. Once you reconnect up the speed sensor and the likes to the odo and the feed back to the ECU it should suddenly become a little easier If you aren't going to put the odo and speedo back in, you may want to consider connecting the feed up the ECU in a suitable way. pedrosixfour
It'll all be going back in, thats a definite, once I paint the cage and possibily the interior. I'm just glad to know there MAY be a chance this niggle could disappear with the dash re-installation. Thanks for your time Gav, should all not end well I know where to find you!!
