setting boost controller with external wastegate

Hi Guys

Ive followed the diagram below to plum it in (cheers Kev.O) but reading the text has confused me a little.

If I interprate it correctly if the controller is set at o% or turned off the turbo will run at maximum boost. If I want to run it on the wastegate spring I must set it at 100%. This is reverse to an internal wastegate.

I just thought id get some clarity for you guys before I set it up.

Thanks in advance

John

Can't see the diagram, too small, but normally there is a setting for external and internal waste gates in the setup menu of most boost controllers, which have you got?

You should be able to set it to off, or just dial in 0% which should mean that the controller is having no effect.

For an external wastegate, On the Boost solenoid itself use ports labeled COM and NC

NC is your pressure source hose (usually Tee'd with hose from side of gate)

COM is the hose to the bottom of the gate

Prolly easier setting up in automode which should be in the manual

Here you go:

Thats Diagram uses a simple 2 port Solenoid which is a NO (Normally open) Port hence needing 100% duty to see no effect on an external gate.

Most boost controllers use a 3 port solenoid which also have a NC(normally closed) Port which works in reverse i.e. 0% duty equals no effect, specifically for external gates.

Hmm, thats odd, my Blitz BC uses the same diagram yet seems to work normally, IE 0 dc = no effect, but i do see what you mean.

IIRC some controllers and also ECU's have an internal software setting for the wastegate Type i.e normal actuator/flap and External gate. these usually use a 2 port solenoid.

The other use a 3 port to differntiate between normal and external gates.

Ive attached both setups for the Profec E01

I would want to check for boost creep and other issues 1st by just running the wastegate and no boost controller plumbed in

Ps small typeo in the greddy distructions...they mention CN instead of NC
