uk specs or jap specs brakes

to go uk, do I need to fit new calipers as well? or just the discs?

You'll need UK spec calipers (that's the important thing), discs, pads, dust sheilds, anti squeel shims & brake lines. It's fairly expensive, but not as much as going for a "big brake" kit.

Contact Nic on here for the cheapest price on the UK spec option. You'll ideally need to replace the fronts and rears at the same time.

It's about £1.2k to do.

A lot of people here on jap brakes simply change to stainless braided lines, fluid, good decent pads (say CW) and Toyota discs and this should be sufficient for fast road driving.

If you plan on doing trackdays then perhaps need to definetely go down the route of UK spec brakes.

why brake lines? there the same...

I would guess that Homer means whilst replacing them, breaking the seal so to speak, you may as well take the time to renew the hoses or go for braided :)

did anybody notice the crack in the disk in picture 3! thats dangerous, trust me, get them changed asap! :)

It doesnt appear to be a crack young padewan, simply a pad mark

  • 4 weeks later...

my car is A JAP spec 96 tt and it has the bigger 4 piston front 2 piston rear brake setup. should it not be mentioned that all Jap turbos had bigger brakes from 95 onwards, earlier they had optional 17 inch rims with bigger brakes as an option which became standard i think in 95. I read this somewhere sorry cant back it up now but i believe its true.

My car is a 1996 J Spec TT 6 spd and it came with the smaller J Spec brakes. I have since changed these to the larger brakes.

Not quite correct. RZ Facelifts came with the big brakes as standard (i have one) thats it as far as i know.

That would be 96 onwards & RZ model.

That's not a comment I would ever want to hear when discussing brakes! :(

Get the most expensive brakes you can afford. As has been mentioned, if you can get brakes from Toyota, then do that over getting something from ebay...

I'm sure I'm teaching how to suck eggs, but I would scrimp in other area's before being cheap on brakes tyres and suspension.
