Guest shanew1108
Hi guys, read a few of the posts on sticking brakes but just thought id see if u can help me with my problem, Ok so yesterday i was out and stoppped, pulled away and it felt like i was driving with the hand brake on i had to drive home in first gear with my foot near enough right down So i left it outside the house and called a friend, betime he came round the brakes had come free so i hoped it was just something what would happen the once...................Silly me ! went out this morning and it did it again so i drove straight home jacked it up whipped the wheels and calipers off, seems both sides the piston is sticking when u press the brakes, discs are also about gone ive left the calipers off put the wheels back on and it will stay put till its sorted. Have any of u guys had this and what is my plan of action, obviously it needs new discs and may aswell get new pads while im at it but what and i gonna do about the caliper/piston and where i will get parts from? been quoted £90 for 2 second hand calipers from a breakers but dont want to go through the same again? Any help would be great guys.
tooquicktostop
I had a problem on my NA that was a result of these cars getting older me thinks The rear caliper has a slider that can become dry and sticky, it causes the brake to remain on to some degree and is not good for pad and disk wear let alone performance and fuel economy! You pull the slider pin out, give it a good clean and copper grease and return to the caliper, I would do this with a new set of pads and discs if you need them
dude
Try and get some lubricant on the pistons under the rubber boot and work them in a nd out a few times, if your discs are very thin and the pads shot they may be coming out too far and kicking slightly. Chris Wilson
It's probably the caliper slider pins that are seized, not the caliper piston itself.
