JustGav
5 Litres !!!!!!! Oh dear 5 litres is a little too far past the low level..... I'd keep an eye on it carefully, if the oil has gone down that far you MIGHT have some serious damage.

Guest glen9mullan
no still talking about engine, it just failed to turn over until oil was put in when it was in park
JustGav
no still talking about engine, it just failed to turn over until oil was put in when it was in park Failed to turn over?? as in, it wouldn't start or the pistons wouldn't physically move? If it was just spinning over on the starter, it could possibly be the rings are shot completely now and you have no compression.
Guest glen9mullan
it was like battery was flat!! car starts now but makes tapping noise towards back of engine, it does sound like the lifters
Tricky-Ricky
I'm afraid if you had to put in 5lt of oil, it was practically dry! my advice would be to start saving;) as if it was run that low i suspect that if there was oil pressure it was intermittent, and almost certainly caused some damage. Dave17
Doesn't sound good, if it was me i'd get it towed to a reliable garage and get it checked out, let them know it's been run dry.....good luck matey.
