Renault over-fueling?

Recommended Posts

My Renault Safrane has somehow picked up a really, really bad over-fueling problem:(....so bad in fact, it cant be driven, the thing just doesnt rev when its in gear and your foot is flat on the floor:blink:!

Now, after a fair amount of fault finding, Ive been guaranteed that the flywheel is buggered and causing the flywheel sensor to send the ecu wrong info and hence cause the problem. My question is, before I get another flywheel and then proceed to remove the box to get it replaced (this is a fair amount of work id rather not have to do) is there anything else it could be?

Reason I ask is apparently when looking around the engine bay, the guy fault finding said he moved part of the wiring loom out the way and it started running properly. Is this something to this or am I just trying to make excuses so I dont have to dismantle the car?:help:

I think you have answered your own question there mate. If moving the wiring loom made it work then my guess would be an electrical fault NOT mechanical. In what way is the flywheel knackered? As the sensor that picks up the signal is only a magnet that creates a squarewave form to tell the ecu were TDC is. So unless you have removed the teeth from the flywheel or the flywheel is not spinning in sync with the crank I can't see why its the flywheel? BTW is the flywheel dual mass or standard?

Aye, thats my thoughts and why Im a little doubtful of the findings. The flywheel is just a standard flywheel with a strip of metal welded to it with square holes all the way around and thats what the sensor reads so I assume this is the bit that is apparently damaged though I cant think how these could be damaged?! Right, think I might try change the wiring loom first and see where that gets me (thankfully I already have one sitting here).
