JustGav
Cop was right.... Interesting how she said it was all a lie and that she wasn't hostile, then when the tape went public she hasn't commented since... Doesn't matter if they are 2 or 72, the policeman did the right thing.
supra_aero
Heated? By Jove no, you've only been here a year, if you think I’m being heated you haven't read some of my previous material! Although I do find it quite a sorry state that members on here don't think this could have been handled in a better way, one that would have resulted in an elderly not being electrocuted. You are making us sound very heartless. It is an approved piece of equipment which is tested and doesn't cause long term affects for the suspects. It's not like he pulled a gun or beat her with a baton. He gave her ample warnings as well. 7 minutes of warnings

It was over the top. Doesn't matter if they are 2 or 72, the policeman did the right thing. How naive. And a typical attitude used far too often to "black and white" situations of exception where individuality should be ascertained. So, doesn't matter whether they are 2 or 72 what about if they were in a wheel chair, same treatment? I quess so seen as though every individual matter can be defused via the same method... Gaz6002
Oh behave yourself! Unlikely TBH. I'd suggest grabbing her by the arm And when she goes mental and, using her other more liberated arm, attacks him with ?? (less of force than he has already dealt her) and putting the cuffs on if he is that much of a wimp. How, when he couldn't even move her from the side of the road, do you propose putting cuffs on her? Taser manufactorers recommend carrying a defib with the taser. And Peanut makers have to state their product contains peanuts. So? Anyway, if he had said defib then she'd be OK anyway wouldn't she? I'd say at 72 years old, you can't get must more "lasting" than death from a heart attack, which could come from mear shock (no pun intended) alone I think mere shock was more likely to kill the copper TBH. People like her shouldn't get special treatment, she was in the wrong and I honestly don't see what he could have done differently with laws the way they are. Matt H
And when she goes mental and, using her other more liberated arm, attacks him with ??. When she goes mental. Common sense man, she's is 72 years old, he is a large younger male... How, when he couldn't even move her from the side of the road, do you propose putting cuffs on her? Obviously not watching the same video because i saw a police officer push the old lady quite easily from the side of the road. But maybe you are right, perhaps there is possibly a bread of super granny out there that has overtaken mere mortality, and is stronger than an Ox. I take you would have trouble cuffing that old lady hey And Peanut makers have to state their product contains peanuts. So?? No they don't genius, they say they "Do" contain "nuts". If think what you are trying to say, albeit shooting wide from the target, is other products other than nuts "may contain nuts". That is probably due to the fact that if someone with a nut allergy eats some that may contain nuts they may become seriously ill. I presume the effect of such becomes more serious as the individuals case of allergy is more serious. The same as, when you get older, the chance of a stroke or heart attack increases. Anyway, if he had said defib then she'd be OK anyway wouldn't she? Coherently please?
Scott
Saved the old bag right. For ONCE a cop actually used a bit of restraint and discipline before rightly enforcing the law. Equal rights to all, i'm all for it!

Scott
Did you read the story mate? This all went on over 10 mins. The cop had the patience of a saint with the old girl. Could have thrown the book at her if he wanted.
Gaz6002
Coherently please? ROFL Matt you really are a joker. My post was completely coherent, especially compared to the majority of yours recently. Oh, and I'd have no problem tasing the young lady, let alone cuffing her... We're not talking about me here though are we? We're talking about the policeman on the video who for whatever reason felt he couldn't restrain the lady without tasing her.

Could have thrown the book at her if he wanted. Go on then one last one. Well it does vary slightly from report to report, but while you consider it to have gone on a "long time", it was ample enough time for the copper to realise this woman is just all talk, and no threat. If could have gone on for half an hour, the longer it goes on, the more reason to not jump to the taser in this matter. But you're obviously looking at the time aspect in a different manor. He could and should perhaps have thrown the book at her, but I don't agree that throwing however many volts into her was justified.
Lbm
I must watch this first but I can't resist - I'm building up a splendid mental picture here. My guess is, the cop should have given her headbutt or something. Anyway, I''ll have a watch and see if my opinion changes. One moment please... Matt H
I think maybe the OP missed this small bit of important information. It depends whether you consider it important or not though doesn't it. It still results in the same out come.. a 72 year woman being electrocuted! tooley
so just because shes 72 years old means she can clearly get away with speeding then resisting arrest after first being given the option of just signing the charge sheet to show up in court. then he moves her to ensure she isnt side swiped like you see in every eposide of car wars by a passing truck so ensuring not only hers but his own safety. if she had been reasonable in the first place and done exactly as the officer had told her to do and even before she got out it wouldnt have escalated in the way it did..... and she lied about it afterwards im glad the video shows it as it happened because old or not woman or not she broke the law and paid the price and the officer should be commended for bringing the situation under control
China Man
He got a job to do and was trained to use it, where I see it from the video he did all the correct procedures and she been warned many times. Just because she is 72 years she thinks police is holding a toy gun instead of a weapon, time for her to learn police are trained to use it as a Weapon, not a toy to scare people into submission. If she was my mum I would ask her to keep her mouth shut and save having to deal with embarrassment.

Prejudice should not be allowed in this world let alone in the police force. She was guilty of a number of crimes and had to be subdued. If he had not tasered her then she would have possibly ended up worse off as man handling her fragile 72 year old frame would probably see broken bones. bigbloodyturbo
So, doesn't matter whether they are 2 or 72 what about if they were in a wheel chair, same treatment? I quess so seen as though every individual matter can be defused via the same method... If she was in a wheelchair the officer could of just pushed her to the side of the road so wouldn't have needed the taser (or nightstick) so that point isn't valid. TLicense
Just think 20 odd years ago, before they had tasers, he'd have had to have shot her!
Scott
Matt you are so patronising and obtuse at the same time its not even funny anymore. You tell someone in a wheelchair that you will treat them differently due to their disability and they will go off you very quickly. Saying that, perhaps we should treat you differently as you are quite clearly clueless.

I quess so seen as though every individual matter can be defused via the same method... Yup, if they are breaking the law, then yes reasonable force/constraint should be applied. Using a taser is one of the best methods as it doesn't leave marks.. I still fail to see what the issue is here...If this was some chav giving the copper grief people would be cheering... JustGav
It depends whether you consider it important or not though doesn't it. It still results in the same out come.. a 72 year woman being electrocuted! And you have completely missed the point here.. A person was resisting arrest. PURE and SIMPLE.. The policeman didn't use excessive force, but as others have pointed out used restraint and patience. I haven't mentioned age here because it has no bearing... a crime is a crime.... If some 72 yr old went on the rampage and killed 300 people, I doubt very much the age card would come up then...
