maybe boxes to keep the noise down when i removed that piping and replaced it with a custom made one the noise level was well different

ah k. must be resonators. any improvements from when u replaced the piping or just aesthetics?

They are part of the tuned, dual length intake system. Of course, binning them to fit an air intake that filters less ably than the stock paper element, draws in hot under bonnet air, whilst also spoiling the tuned resonance of the system is a good idea. Toyota missed out on that cheap and simple possibility for more power, better filtration and a wider power band ;)

ya i know all about the downsides of upgrading intake without CAI. :D

im running stock air box atm just wondering if there would be any benefits to running a straight pipe from the stock box to the Y intake.

surely cant be that bad if it is a disadvantage hehe

but i guess toyota engineers wouldve have put 2 boxes there for no reason. :)

No, but some serious DISadvantages.

See above... taking out the resonance will affect engine performance in some manner. I hardly think some Japanese designer put extra mouldings (read extra cost) just because they 'looked cool'.

as performance goes there will be no gains to be had from ditchin it ive got an apexi on mine routed down in to the bumper left cut out sounds brill if your in to noise

So you have your filter low and at road level??? What about water ingestion?

It looks like it's just come off the production line! mint..

I noticed you're from Australia, must be to do with the difference in weather in part. All we get over here is corrosive acid rain! :D
