MarkR
I'm busy having the manual conversion done but the gearbox speedo sensor plug is different to the one in all the articles on the internet and only has 2 wires as opposed to 3 in the diagrams. Anyone come across this or know what to do with it? http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/auto_to_6spd_swap/install_6spd/index.html
MarkR
Anyone......?
MarkR
It looks like there are 2 speedo sensors each with 2 wires. One at the front and one at the back.
MarkR
Has anyone got any information for me on the auto/tiptronic wiring?
MarkR
Can anyone with a 6 speed vvti manual please have a look at the 3 wires coming out of the sensor on the gearbox and tell me what colour the wires are? I know it's a tall order but I'm a little stuck at the moment.
pistonbroke
I'm not going to be able to help massively mate, I can only shed light on my past experience with tip boxes. You are converting to manual so would assume that one of the sensors is redundant. On the tip box you'll have two sensors, one input one output. As far as I'm aware, the manual will just have one (output).
MarkR
Thanks bud. I've read through about 30 docs today on Toyota boxes and it seems that the #1 sensor is the primary one. Only problem is that the manual box has power earth and pulse, but the tip box has 2 wires, so I'm not sure which one is the pulse. If I could figure out what colour a genuine 6 speed manual uses then I could find that wire on my ECU and hopefully start troubleshooting this there. pistonbroke
it might be worth pm'ing keron, i believe he does manual conversions on a regular basis.
MarkR
He sold me the conversion. I'll call him tonight as he's also supplied the wrong rear part of the prop shaft. It's too long and the 6spd rear prop is shorter as the diff is longer front to back.
pistonbroke
Hope you get it sorted bud
MarkR
Thanks, spoke to Keron and he's going to check if he has the correct propshaft and also check on some of his engine harnesses to see what the wires look like.
SteveR
If you can tell me where to look & take photos of, and if it's an easy anough area to get to, I don't mind trying to help.

Had one deal with Keron so far and was very impressed. the more i hear about his work the more i like. will defo be looking in his direction for a tt swap as soon as $ allows! I remember some Auto to manual wiring issues with DIY Dude Miko's tt swap thread it was a 5 speed but i think he had the same issue. arr found it!! http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=136136

I'm not sure how easy it is to get to when the box is on the car and all the bits are screwed together. I'll have to have a look and get back to you. Basically, the manual gearbox will have a few wires coming from it to the ECU. One of them is for the reverse indicator and usually there is a plug with three wires. If I remember correctly there is a power, earth and pulse. Ideally I'd like to know what colour the 3 wires are on the plug that isn't attached to the box, so I know what to look for on the ECU side. MarkR
http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/auto_to_6spd_swap/install_6spd/DSC03974.JPG Here's a pic of the speed sensor on the manual box. You can see the gear stick at the top left, to give you an idea of where the sensor is in relation to things.

MarkR
Another quick question. What voltage goes into the speed sensor on the box?
Rywalls
Did this issue ever get resolved? I'm in the same boat now and need to know which pins are which
