kill1308
Excellent... Apple have finally caught up with the rest of the phone world... ;) I find it pretty amazing that it took up until the 3rd release to get the basic features it needed... I know it's Apples first stab at a mobile device but still, it's a bit lame. I really got into the hype to start with, but they missed so much important stuff on the first 2 devices that I needed which is why I ended up with the G1. Exact same here, got rid of the iphone and went to the G1, really like the iphone as a gadget but terrible as a phone IMO.
SupraGirlie
I'll be getting one the moment it is released, anyone want a 3G iPhone The only one thing I was hoping they would further improve, and that's the camera, an extra 1mp is rubbish. cheekymonkey
I'd love an iPhone but until it integrates with my MacBook Pro as well as the Nokia I have currently it just won't happen. Until then it's iPod Touch for me where I get 90% of the functionality anyway.

What on earth does the Nokia do on a mac that the iPhone doesn't? iTunes sorts out music and backups. iCal sorts out Calender. Mail for email. You can have ringtone management programs as well as another to sync certain files on your iphone. I was a little disappointed by the 3GS release. Yes it's nicer to have a faster processor and a little bit of battery life, but unless the Tom Tom turn-by-turn sat-nav application is not supported on the normal 3G one I don't have a compelling reason to upgrade. It's nice, 32Gb storage would be nice over 16Gb and battery life but I'm unsure the benefits really will be worth paying out 6 months of my remaining contract on my 3G! That and how good is 7.2Mb 3G reception coverage out there outside of London and a few major cities? Looking forward to the production version of iPhone OS 3.0 And snow leopard in September Will see if it stresses my MP
cheekymonkey
Whoops - missed out the link that I was going to paste in. It's for a nifty little program called BluePhoneElite. Basically allows me to keep my Nokia in my pocket and have calls and texts come through to my desktop. It's done really well and has to be seen to be appreciated. Unfortunately the more advanced features rely on a helper app that runs on Symbian, and looks like it won't be around on the iPhone any time soon. http://mirasoftware.com/BPE2/ It's so much easier to quickly respond to a text on the computer when I'm on the laptop all day anyway for work. I'm really happy with my iPod Touch anyway - the icing on the cake will be if I could bluetooth the iPod to my Nokia to establish an internet connection for Safari on the move. This is close but not possible yet

What he said, having done a bit of loking about there doesnt seem to be anything that will make me want to pay about £200 to upgrade to the S any time soon The new OS will cover most of the bad bits of the current phone, i dont find any problems with speed (if i want to sit and surf the net i have a laptop for that, the iphones pleanty good enough as a back up) Cameras a piddly 1mp bigger... while Sony are doing 8.something's. All in all a bit of a let down

Ric
So, any 3g user is going to have a minimum 6 months left to pay on their contracts, then another pounding to pay for the phone for a 24 month contract and you know you'll expect the same in 12 months! Well done O2, you just pissed off all your iphone 3g customers!

Well done O2, you just pissed off all your iphone 3g customers! Yep. I bought on day of release and I have 6 months to go on my 18 month term. Even tho I'm on family tariff (33% off) I still have over £200 to buy out my contract. A friend's due an upgrade, he may get a contract, I may give him my 16Gb 3G + £50 or so and have a 32Gb 3GS off him when he signs up and my contract will still then expire in December/January so I won't have upgrade fees on the next iteration of iPhone Nice App for the Nokia there C-Monkey, would look into that myself if I hadn't sold my MBP. Can't believe o2 want £15/month for 3Gb of tethered data tho. Rip off

kslb
does not do enough nor has it been improved enough to justify the expense of an early upgrade, I think I will wait out for the next upgrade which will probably still be before this contract runs out. I think I still have a year to go on my 16gb 3g contract to run but it was a free upgrade so can't complain.
MrAngry
I have just received a text from O2 saying that the 3g new software is to be released on the 17th of June. http://shop.o2.co.uk/update/index.html

johnny g
Well, if you bought a 3G new, you'll have to buy your way out of a contract, which will probably be due in November sometime, then it's the cost of the new handset on top... Most people will be in the region of £500 even if they take out a new contract. Can't see this being a big one for o2 at the moment!
