optim8
Hi, Had my TT for just over a month now. When I got it, it used to bubble a bit in the Expansion tank when I stopped the car, but ignored it as a TADT. Anyway last week after a 30 mile run it had dumped aload of water out of the expansion tanks all over the front of the car. I am hoping that this is perhaps a fault with the rad cap which has just got worse. Not sure if it's worth mentioning but it has developed a bit of a missfire which is bad when first starting up but then pretty much clears up within a few mins, this started about 2 weeks ago. So my questions are: 1) Do you think I'm barking up the right tree here with the fault? 2) If it is the cap where do I get one, as i bought one off Ebay and it doesn't fit (got a spring on it which mine doesn't) I'm stressing so any feedback would be much appreciated. Many thanks.
R Black
Yes this can be caused by the cap, you can get a replacement from Mr T(Toyota), or one of the traders on here, its also advisable to stick with the standard cap & not a higher pressure one apparently. Terminator
Sounds most likely that you rad cap is not holding normal pressure, which causes the reserve bottle to overflow. A new cap should fix it, unless you have other problems, but you will still need to change the cap. Your cap should have a spring!!! Unless you have a new rad or you know your rad is in tip top condition, a higher pressure cap is not advised, as they will quickly cause leaks if your system can not hold the extra pressure. AlexM
Sounds like rad cap to me, mine caused this when the spring dropped out. I got a standard pressure one from Chris Wilson.

optim8
That's what I'm hoping. I did pop to halfords at Lunch time and bought a QH FC66 1.1 cap which looks identical to mine. Cost a tenner which isn't too bad. As for the missfiring looking on here it may be the coil connectors so I've bought a set of those and will look to replace this week. Anyone done this, is it a tricky job?

Might wanna try plugs too if misfire persists

Many thanks. could possibly be headgastket fault, as this would pressurize the system and blow the water out and can leak back into the cylinder causing a missfire until water is pumped out, or could be just rad cap as others have said, anyway hope you get it sorted, regards chris
Dnk
Fingers crossed for you its not a headgasket problem, just go to Toyota for a new cap and dont forget to bleed to system as it'll have air in it now, run the car with the heater on full hot with the rad cap off, keep topping the rad up till no bubbles and also fill up the expansion tank approx halfway.
