RedM
You can download new processors from some of the bigger sites. Try ZDnet. Also, make sure your motherboard and CPU are horizontal. If they are upright then the electrical movement around the boards and chips can be slowed as they fight against gravity. Failing that just open the case up. The extra cooling gives a massive speed increase.

With regard to taking the cover off, are there negative ramifications like dust damaging bits?

imi
hi guys anyone know of a free download to speed up my pc Heat is an enemy when it comes to performance, true with cars also true when it comes to PCs. Look at the cooling, best to put it near a freezer especially during the boot up process, should knock off a few seconds off its start up time. MaveriK
CCleaner is a good application. Run msconfig and look for anything being started that you dont need Remove all the dust etc from the motherboard etc
marbleapple
He was taking the piss bud. Fair enough. I thought they were valid suggestions from Rorscharch and would still be interested in the answers to the questions I asked though. Heat is an enemy when it comes to performance, Thats the reason why I thought taking a side of the case off might work. Whats the point of water cooling, fans etc if not to improve performance? Hopefully, so was he. Sadly not mate, for the reasons above
ellis
Also try defragging and throwing off all the crap you don't need as well!
caseys
Thats the reason why I thought taking a side of the case off might work. Whats the point of water cooling, fans etc if not to improve performance? Sadly not mate, for the reasons above Generally when you're overclocking processors to run them faster, or graphics cards, or have multiple graphics cards within a case. Overclocking or multiple GPUs increase the BTU in the case so you need to lower it to prevent hardware failures. It's just to keep cooling close to the running parameters of the hardware, or sometimes to lower the ambient noise. Oh and to the OP, software will generally not make your PC run faster, it'll just try and remove programs that are making it run slower. Uninstall any crap you don't need. Or do a fresh install and only install what you need and keep it to that. Otherwise buy some faster hardware.
Scott
memory optimization software is like snake oil in my opinion. Your actually using more resources to run it lol. I run my pc with the side off. Just to keep the fan from going into lightspeed super noisy mode. And obviously to help longevity.
