Guest Garfy
I think I've met this car at an mx5nutz meet at a pub in Slindon back when I had my eunos maybe 18months ago? It was a very nice looking car. yeah I think you might have its been through some changes since then

Guest Garfy
Time for an update, I few months ago I welded up the passenger side rear section of the sill, well this weekend has been set aside to sort out the drivers side, I knew this was worse than the other side, so I purchased a rear wing repair panel, so that I could cut off the bottom section and use that This is what it looked like before I started, doesn't look to bad, well not as bad as some others I have seen out comes the angle grinder, hmmmm, ok, still not toooo bad now lets attack the lower part of the sill, oh dear, this is starting to look more serious better investigate this further Still not happy with what I see, better cut more of the rear wing away so I can see a bit more, and as you can see the strengthener is very rusty, and the rear of it is not attached to anything really, looks like its going to be a long day. after a few mins looking at it, prodding it with a stick, uming and aring, I decide I might aswell start welding in plates and see what happens, first of all I wanted to secure the rear of the strengthener, so I make a plate using a cardboard template, put a fold on the back so to re-create the arch lip, which will then give me something to weld the outer wing to later, put a few more bends in it, then weld it in with the rear of the strengthener secured and structurally sound I turn my attention to the bottom of the strengthener, a plate is made, and again I put a fold in it for the bottom of the sill, and few more bends, curves etc, and then its welded into place now its all solid, and I'm really pleased with my work there, so on goes some rust protection next I cut of the lower part of the repair panel, offering it up to the car a few times to make sure I cut off what I need then, its welded onto the car, and cleaned up then some filler to blend it in, thats as far as I have got today, some more filler and sanding flat will be carried out tomorrow, then I'll respray it, all going well it should disapear as if by magic so, if any of you out there have an MX5 with a bit of rust on your rear sills, I suspect it will be alot worse than you think, I am now considering looking at the passenger side again and cutting it right open as I have on this side, and repairing any nasties I see in there. Hope you enjoyed
Geo
Nice read Dude. Myself and Ian W will be doing something similar. We bought a MX5 of a club member on here. Pick it up end of Aug were using it for a track car, so we'll be doing loads of stripping.

Guest Garfy
well, I've been at it all day, but its finished, I'm not 100% happy, again the colour is to dark, the car is supposed to be Velocity red, but its defo lighter than it should be, I think I'm going to respray the whole car next year, so this will do for now, I'll try and loose the colour difference along the door next weekend. I did this with rattle cans to, I'll have to dig out the compressor before I do the whole car.
ADL Mark
Looks great, I'd be very happy with it. Don't know if it's the light or does the door look lighter than the front and rear wings anyway?

Guest Garfy
Another update, I managed to get my greasy little hands on a set of BMW E30 3 series bbs 15" alloys for the tiny sum of £80, and this is what I have done to them velocity red rims, and gloss black centres, I'm also going to get some centre caps made up with bbr turbo on them, they will also be clad in new toyo proxes, mmmmm yummy, just need to find somewhere that will put the tyres on for me tomorrow and to give some idea of what they might look like on the car

Guest Garfy
wheels fitted, I'm really pleased, I think they look great, and the offset works excellently, not bad £86 including paint car is still sitting a little high in these pictures, but it will settle down. Chrome mirrors have to go now though, lol
