Warning Light

HELP!!!!!!!!

I have a 93 Supra Import with an Auto box.

I have an engine warning light flashing on briefly when driving above 70mph. I know when it is going to do it because the Overdrive light flashes repeatedly.

Does anyone have any ideas before I go to the garage and they recommend a 2nd mortgage. If you can give me some ideas to say to the mechanics so that i dont look like a total dumbass when i go in I would appreciate it.

Any help would be most appreciated

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark and welcome aboard.

99.99999999999999% certain you have a botched speed signal conversion. Use the SEARCH function on this BBS.

Its probably the most often discussed problem. You won't have to re-mortgage to get it fixed. Chill! :D

No probs.

Pete Betts is the Jedi Master on speedo conversions and their associated foibles. He also makes his own brand of speedo converter and speed delimiter and can supply details on how to wire them in properly.

It would be really good if I could remember the URL for his website (TRL Performance). I'm sure there is a link to it from the mkivsupra.net main site.

Thanks Again, Ill get in touch with him. Excuse my ignorance but is that 2 seperate things that i need. Conversion and Delimiter. My cars speedometer already raeds in Mph although the odo is km.

I have another question, Sorry, I have a small square button with a red light on the top, beside the mirror controls.

Do you know what this is? The light doesnt always come on when it is pressed and it doesnt seem to do anything. Its been bugging me and the manuals that I got with the car dont have it in there.

I am not the cleverest when it comes to cars......

Thanks Again

Mark

That's going to be your rear fog light switch. Imports don't have them fitted, but to pass the SVA you need a rear foglight so it's been installed by the importers. It should only work when your main lights are on as well, hence the seemingly intermittent behaviour.

Apart from this, are you enjoying the car? :)

Well if you have a speedo face that reads up to 180mph then you will already have a converter, albeit probably not wired in correctly, hence the light show at 70mph plus.

You can use the same box of tricks to do the delimiting (can you get above 112mph???) but it only really works on a manual, since the auto box gets confused by the modified speed signal. To delimit an auto you need Pete's box of tricks (or you could spend close to £200 for an HKS part with instructions in Japanese).

Depending on what you have already, you can have two boxes to do both jobs, or both in one.
