EdMorris
One for the pros I think, or at least the more knowledgeable. Right, I'm starting to sort out and piece together my gearshift and selector assembly and I need to clarify how it attaches to the gearbox. I've got most of it made up from using 'toyodiy' exploded pictures (pic 1). A couple of questions 1. The control shaft has a notch in it (pics 2 and 3), and I need to know if it goes on a specific side of the gearbox (pics 4 and 5), or if its there for some other reason? There's a pin and some sort of clip that attaches the end to the gearbox shaft, but I'm missing those parts at the moment, so its not clear why the notch is there. 2. The plate at the base of the shifter has a raised side, presumably for the selection of reverse. I don't know the shift pattern (my car was an auto), and so need to know which side to mount this also (pic 6). 3. Having seen Mr Whiffin's thread regarding solid bushings for the fork, do you guys think this is a worthwhile mod as this assembly is off the car, even though the existing bushes are brand new? Thanks chaps, Ed
Chris Wilson
The notch is there solely so you can get a screwdriver under the pin retaining spring clip to remove it. The plate with the reverse lock out tab is situated with the tab to the left as you are sat in the car, so you can't move the lever right over to the left hand side for reverse without lifting the collar to allow the detent to clear. It's no big deal if you fit it the wrong way round (to the right) you'll soon know as you can get reverse without lifting the collar. I see this loads of times.
