Rear Disc removal..

Guest Decat man

Hi all and a big hello from a new member... changing the rear offside wheel bearing on my 95 TT and need to remove the rear disc, hub nut off, drive shaft able to slide but disc still wont move... am i missing something?.... thanks for any help anyone can give

Hand brake. You need to insert a screwdriver into the hole (should be protected by a rubber cover if I remember) on the disc and turn it.... I can't remember what direction either but probably anti-clockwise, and this will adjust the hand brake such that the disc can be removed.

 

Don't keep tugging it at like I did :blink: as you'll bend the adjustor out of shape and then it'll foul the disc when it's put back on.

Just done this myself. Mine were really seized on. If the screw technique alone does not shift them then a few hard hits on the disc with a soft face mallet should help. It did for me. As a side the threads are M8 x 1.25 thread.

 

Also, when you wind the brake shoes in via the plug, it needs to go all the way in a downwards direction. The adjuster is at the '6' position if you imagine a clock face, so line up the plug here and you'll be able to see it/turn it.

i did that as well :p

 

smashed the shyt out of the disc with a hammer until it came off along with the entire mechanisms lol :D

Having changed both an my god those ball joints are something else without wreckin them a Sealey VS3802 28-55mm fits all the ball joints an doesnt screw the rubbers a small 20 tonne workshop press did the bearing no worries.. better than smacking stuff with hammers.
