Paul
No, not in that way:) This afternoon was out in the Mazda estate and some twat forgets to brake in crawling traffic and shunts it up the back. We get out and take a look, his an old Astra and ours a newish Mazda estate, mint with 1500 miles on the clock:( His bumper has creased the plastic and damaged the paint on ours in several areas, also got two shallow dents and a tiny chip on the tailgate, the reversing sensors are also buggered and are on all the time. You've got to laugh because he suggests just touching the paint in and all's well?? I've got all his insurance details but he wants to do cash if possible but I'm against this and told him that I wouldn't expect change from a grand. I'd rather have the slight dents in the tailgate removed via PDR and the tiny chip touched up. The bumper on the other hand looks like it'll need replacing and painting and then the reversing sensors will need looking at or replacing. Will be taking it to my preferred bodyshop on monday but I guess I'm right in wanting to go through insurance? As we'll be claiming off his then do I still need to go and get two quotes and who pays for it first, mine is fully comp, do I claim from ours and hope they get it back from his? Oh yeah, he's a local Liberal candidate, just about sums up what I thought of them anyway:D Maybe if he gets in he can claim the excess out of his expenses! Havard
Hi Paul, Just go through the insurance mate. We have a 58 plate Mazda 6 Sport and if anyone ran into that I would want it done properly..!! The problem is, if you agree cash then it opens up a whole new list of problems...!! Will he pay? Will the garage do a good job? Do you have any comeback in 6 months time if the paint starts falling off? It's his mistake and he should sort it out through the correct channels.... H. Just what I was thinking, I'm only going to do him a favour and could end up well out of pocket. It's a late '57 Mazda 6 estate, as I said it 'was' mint Shame as getting this from new was a saga in itself and we rejected the first one as it had been repainted poorly as result of transit damage and this was the perfect replcement. I'm just worried about it going in for repair now and coming back less than perfect. BTW, it's a Mazda 6 estate in Pacific blue;) Great cars

You have nothing to gain by settling it privately, and plenty to lose, especially if he thinks a bit of touch up paint should suffice. Paul
LOL, no he wasn't Polish, he had Insurance Probably got some glare off the BNP sticker in the back (joke) Update, our insurance have given the OK with repairs, other bloke has admitted liability. They will be contacting us regarding a replacement car to the same spec so that'll be fun to blast around Just got to go to the local Aston Martin paintshop to get the estimate done (they are very good and do non Astons too;))

Paul
Will they pay for any bodyshop on a single qoute? That would be good. Yeah mate, they get an assesor to go through the estimate anyway and if there's an issue then he will pay the garage a visit to discuss. I've been insistent that it goes to this particular bodyshop, told them I wasn't interested in it going to their 'approved repairers' as in my experience they are cheap and crap most of the time. They told me the one estimate would be fine so I took it to the bodyshop this afternoon and they have quoted around £2500 !! TBH it was a very light shunt, the tailgate will be panel beaten as the dents are very shallow, the outer bumper plastic replaced, the bumper bar is deformed slighty so will be replaced and also the reversing sensors replaced. Bumper, tailgate and maybe the rear quarters (for blend) will be painted, total 5 working days they will have it. Bit ott price wise but then again they do work on brand new Astons from dealers such as Stratstones Mayfair, Oh and we aren't paying so that's even better:D Very impressed so far with the insurance companies, Zurich (other guys insurance) have made arrangements for a hire car from Enterprise while it's in for repair, like for like or better, delivered to home or garage and the assesor has already phoned saying he is on standby waiting for the estimate to be completed and has already been in contact with our bodyshop. So all is looking good, hope the finish is OK, left them in no doubt what a fussy bugger I am and that there were no marks/swirls on the car and it was mint pre-accident.
