Fitz
Can anyone tell me if they know, roughly how much it would cost to change the gasket in the waterpump in an N/A Supra? Cheers Cliff

Fitz
Is that from Mr. T himself or just a generic price?
kslb
Just a guess, sorry thought it was a competition!

Digsy
A lot. probably about £300 from Mr T. The water pump sits behind the timing belt, so its basically the same workscope as changing the timing belt. I'd say it was worth doing both jobs if you are at all close to a timing belt change. Are you sure it’s the gasket that is leaking and not the water pump itself? pistonbroke
I had a look at the car, and saw that the water was dripping from the gasket area itself. There is no way of telling whether the pump has failed in some way internally until it's taken off. Either way, the pump has to come off. AlexJames
Well, it took me ages to do it so it would probs cost mostly labour unfortunately. I needed to remove the radiator (to have work room) all of the engine cover and pulleys etc... aux belt. belt tensioner to be able to get at a few of the water pump bolts... Make sure who ever does it knows what they are doing though!
Homer
I was quoted £150 to change the water pump on an NA at a reputable specialist.
Digsy
That's crazy cheap. The water pump itself is nearly £100.
Chris Wilson
I guess that was for labour....
pistonbroke
Cliff, give Derek a ring at Tech One in Sidcup on 020 8302 0600. Tell him I put you on to him, ask for a price to replace the water pump on your NA. get one price with a new pump from toyota, and another just for fitting. I would probably get onto Keron or Jezzybabes and get a low mileage second hand one from them.
