Supe
Just replaced the Power steering pump with a second hand one. The pump was whining, so bled the system with the wheels off the ground and it was smooth and quiet again, however, after lowering the car back on the ground, I am left with no power steering at all Anyone shed some light please
Supe
Anybody? Im beginning to think the reservoir may also be at fault? Any help would be appreciated
tooquicktostop
I had to bleed my system several times before things returned to normal after a pump change When you changed the pump did you change all the fluid ?
Swampy442
It takes an age to bleed the PS system. The res. just holds the oil, if its not leaking its fine Just get the front off the ground and work the steering slowly from left to right, working all the air out. Supe
Thanks guys, I changed all the fluid and there are no leaks in the system. After bleeding the system four times with the wheels off the ground, I think I am getting somewhere the power steering has come back to life and the froth in the reservoir seems to have dissappeared I will only be able to tell, if all is good or not after a test drive, currently the car is parked up behind two other cars, so can't be bothered to go out tonight. If the problem continues I will report back p.s. another thing I noticed is the pump seems to have a 'ticketty/tappetty' noise (If that makes sense?). As my engine sounds extremely smooth at idle and there are no other noises, this is very noticeable, even although it is not very loud I bought the used pump from a member on here. Again thanks for the input guys, takes the stress off a bit when I'm working on the car myself
Supe
Just for reference, the problem seems to have cured. Just make sure you bleed the system several times, if you have similar symptoms. Thanks
