Mike
Why would you want to use the direction buttons? You could try one of these? http://battletoads.info/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/sega-master-system.png
Matt H
Mate, it's 2009, all games are pretty much 3D now. The analogue sticks were introduced my Nintendo years ago on the N64 and have been the only way to fully control a 3D game since. If you want superior control from that though then the Wii is the only option altough it's lack of being a HD machine is disappointing. Get with the times!!!! Mike
Oh, and the Wii uses the Analogue Stick too on the nun-chuck ..but with the exception of Mad World and No More Hero's it's pretty much a kids console Hardcore gamers play XBox
Matt H
Hardcore gamers play XBox Well i'm glad i'm not in that saddo bracket!! I don't think the Wii is a kids console, it has a bit for everyone. It distinctivly lacks HD but to add to that list of more graphic games we have: House of the dead: overkill (plus other House games) COD5 Resi4 plus others Manhunt 2 The conduit Bully etc But you don't have to be raping and pillagin to have fun! One of the best Games ever made, made even better on the Wii: Pikmin (Wii) Pikmin 2 (Wii) Cute and addictive!
martini
Mate, it's 2009, all games are pretty much 3D now. The analogue sticks were introduced by Nintendo years ago on the N64 SEGA with the Saturn NiGHTS pad and have been the only way to fully control a 3D game since. It's also worth noting that the Playstation has one of the worst directional pads ever.
Matt H
It's also worth noting that the Playstation has one of the worst directional pads ever. "Super Mario 64 was released in Japan on 23 June 1996. On 5 July 1996, Sega released Nights into Dreams... for their Saturn console in Japan; bundled with it was the Saturn 3D control pad which featured an analog pad intended to give the player more fluid control over that game's flight-based gameplay" How dare you believe that Sega got in there before Nintendo!!! Leonidas my good man.. I have give you a big fat FAIL!!

Matt H
I think sir meant; Harcore gamers don't use nancy boy consoles...PC's FTW. PC's, this just gets worse!!! Gone are the days that a PC was any benifit to gaming. The PS3 has caught up with the power of a PC, and offers an all in one package. The only advantage PC's have still is in mouse, click and point strategy games. Heh. I stand corrected. There was me hoping SEGA did something first for once. No no no, still nill goals for Sega! martini
No no no, still nill goals for Sega! Oh well. They're done and dusted now - just churning out games. As for PCs, completely agree with Matt H. I own both the PS3 and the XBOX 360, but I've always been a console boy...
Matt H
Oh well. They're done and dusted now - just churning out games. It's quite ironic really, as they were Nintendo's biggest competitor, and now seem to be one of their biggest Allies. Sega have produced some great Nintendo specific games. I always hoped when i was younger Nintendo and Sega would collaborate and they kinda have now, altough a Joing Venture between Nintendo and Sega for the next gen console would amazing and would, imo, be a great selling point. Sega are churning out some great games. A really good Nintendo World / Sega world Platformer that would echo the achievemt that say super mario 64 was would be just unreal. Only thing is, Sonic doesn't fit well in the 3D world!!

Matt H
Hardcore gamers...play games, and don't actually care what platform it's on. I'm not convienced at that. Real hardcore gamers seem to have an alligence to one system or a brand or another. It's the casuals that don't care.

Fanboi != hardcore. All it means is that they're deliberately denying themselves gaming opportunities and moments on alternative platforms due to the ranking of a brand over that of actual gaming. A hardcore gamer will likely own (at least) one of every platform currently available, simply to maximise the amount of gaming opportunity available to them. Keith C
I see your point, I suppose there is a difference between Fanboi Hardcore and Hardcore.. Yup - however most self-professed 'hardcore' gamers are usually fanboi's because they deliberately reject a certain platform/brand. Ask any gamer, any real gamer, it doesn't matter whether you game on a PC or a phone; gaming's gaming.
Scott
Proper hardcore gamers use the PC more often than not. I don't play many games but when i do i find myself swaying towards the Wii. I don't see it as a kids game at all, "for the kids" is a good excuse to have one though. When we have friends round for a drink the Wii ALWAYS goes on with fun multiplayer games. Followed closely by Buzz on the PS3. The Xbox 360 is like the Auto TT of the supra world to me when comparing to a PS3. They will rave and rave about how good the auto box is but at the end of the day, its just not a manual.

Ric
Nothing beats a excellent spec PC for gaming, first person shooters i don't know how anybody can say a pad can beat a keyboard and mouse player.
martini
What a disturbing thread, go and drive your cars or give them a clean! I am still saving, so I am entitled! As for fanboi - I'm not one and have both XBOX and PS3 consoles. I have a load of SEGA stuff that I am currently selling on my blog; My SEGA collection and used to be a SEGA fanboi really when I was growing up. Whilst they are making great games, gaming just isn't what it used to be to me. I still love Sonic 3 & Knuckles most... out of all games.
