I am 18, held my licence for 1 year, and got 1 years no claims bonus. My idea was to get a toyota supra when the insurance goes down at about 21. So for fun i got a quote at the moment. So with me as the main driver, my dad and my mum as named drivers. This was on go-compare.com. I was expecting to not even get a quote! But the results came through and the most expensive was only £8,000. And the cheapest was £2,800. WTF!?!?! How is it so cheap? i couldnt beleive it!! £2,800 a year for a 3.0l Twin Turbo japanese sports car!!

Id hardly say that was cheap, but, at 17 my first car was a 2.0 capri with a cossie kit and i payed £2100 and was perfectly happy with that, then.

Go Compare will hardly give you a decent price either compared with other places recommended here

Just to clarify, im not actually getting a Supra yet, as i dont have £10,000 or whatever it costs to buy one. And as Scotty said, the quote is probably wrong anyway. Im waiting until after i finish Uni as the insurance will be cheaper, and ill hopefully have a decent job.

£2800? that's gone up.

Insured my NA as my first car, zero NCB for £2100 fully comp .

Though are you also checking you're getting quotes for a J-Spec NA rather than a UK-TT? I found a UK-TT was cheaper to insure than my NA was back then (Was only going to be £1300 back then).

That will not be for a japanese import (which most supra's are).

I got about 6 quotes on sites like this but when I rang the companies they didn't cover imports and they have to put you through to a specialist and thats when you get the silly quotes.

Alot, especially given you are not in Manchester or London. I think they are conning you.

If I were you I'd buy a cheap banger for £50, declare it SORN. And put yourself on that for insurance with limited mileage to 100 miles per year, so it builds up your no claims. It will save you tons when it comes to buying the supra 2 years later. I wish I had done that when I was young.

Its not expensive, at all for his age and the current market. Imho Supra's are the cheapest car to insure that offers this sort of performance. I remember once considering an s2000 and it was 5k to insure pmsl, i stuck with the supra at £1400 when i was 20 :)
