Code 42, faulty odo

After putting my dash back my odometer stopped working (still reads but doesn't count) and got a code 42 pop up, I've had it all apart again but can't see any broken or unconnected wires, it's already converted to miles, is it likely my odometer has just packed up?

It could well have done. The buffering circuit within the odometer has a reputation for failing eventually. When it does, it causes a code 42 error. Unless you want to change your speed converter to a Thor one, your best bet is probably to get another odo and have its counter set to the mileage of your car.

Thanks any ideas where a good place to get another odometer from would be and how do you get the mileage set?

Maybe try keron on here for the odo unit? (I should get commission, the number of times I recommend him :D). Not sure where to get the mileage set, try searching on here. Someone's bound to have discussed it in the past. Or ask a few traders: if they don't know themselves, I bet they know someone who does.

Forgot to add the warning light doesn't come on till I hit 60 and will actually go out again if I'm stationary or moving slow for any length of time, could this still be a faulty odometer?

This is "normal" for a code 42. Something in the ECU's logic causes a code 42 to only be generated when you're travelling at at least 60-ish mph. It doesn't necessarily isolate the cause of the code 42 as being the odo though.
