Guest Luigi
TT J spec: First start of the day the eng idles @ 1300rpm and then drops down to about 900 after 30 sec or so. I then drive down the road (about 1 km) and stop at an intersection before turning. The engines conks out (wont idle). I simply turn the ign key 'off' and then 'on' and restart the engine. The idle goes straight to 900 and never falters until the next day and then it's Deja Vu all over again. Can some body tell me which component (and it's location) would reset the idle by simply turning the engine off and back on? It might help me trouble shoot. I have been reading countless idle problem threads here and cannot find this exact issue. Have cleaned the idle air control thingy with no change. Have wriggled countless connectors. No change. The sweet smell of fuel vapour can some times be detected after a drive (no visible leaks). When hot, the engine idle sounds like it has a slight miss or intermittent "poofing" out the exhaust, kinda like a lean mix. asad
i would just reset the ECU, ie remove battery for 10 minutes and reconnect. start up, idle for 10 minutes up until warm, and 5 more mins with air con, switch off and youre done. i just did mine, i do feel a difference in my gear shift and idle with air con on. i am a newbie too with a RZ
Bossco
Your spark plugs could be fouled. That could cause it to sound like it has a slight miss or intermittent "poofing" from the exhaust. It would definately cause it to hunt for revs on idle.
Guest Luigi
I have reset the ECU several times in the last few months with no difference in the idle. I aint that lucky with this one. I can get rid of the pfoofing sometimes when I simply stop and restart the engine to 'fix' the idle, would spark plugs do that? .... I will check them if this is the case. This still leads me back to my original question of identifying which component can reset the idle when I switch the engine off and then restart it? I have been thinking the 02 sensor could be at fault or even the ECU. Using the info that Ian has put in an FAQ thread ... http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=35940 ... I get the following numbers. 1. Engine warming .3 to .7 volts 2. Eng warm idle .031 to .795 volts, which according to the info it could be running lean. If that is the case, what would be the next step to rectify this?
DJButler
Try looking for an air leak on the brake servo sytem or hoses Good luck
