worrying scraping sound

Hi All

Recently I have noticed this worrying scraping sound coming from the front passenger side wheel, it seems to come on and off at random times and sometimes gets worse when you come to a stop, it sounds like metal on metal.

my car is an auto j-sppec with standard brakes, I know the brakes are pretty gash anyway but I cant seem to figure out what is causing this noise......I thought maybe a worn brake pad down to its slimit but surely the warning light would be on if it was that????

could possibly be the release spring on the caliper that has worn??

any ideas would be great as I am totally stumped now :swear:

has anyone else experienced similar :(

cheers

Mikey

As far as I'm aware there is no warning light for the brakes, but the pads are fitted with squeal plates to audibly indicate when there getting low, best just to whip a wheel off and check the pad thickness.

Another possibility is the brake back plate has got bent at sometime and is just touching the disk.

To me it sounds like youve got a nut loose sumwhere, had same prob on my MR2 its was the nut that holds the driveshaft which is in center of brake disc. It'l be different on yours as theres no drive shaft at front but worth a try!

As mentioned there is a piece of spring steel that rubd against the disc when your pads are too low. It will be this. Promise you.
