AndrewOW
When a bit of a lower front tooth broke off recently, I have tended to bite or draw a bit of the inside of my front lip over the sharp edge, and that's really irritating, as it leaves it grazed and potentially ulcerous. I wish I could stop doing that!
Matt H
I think it's probably pretty rare to gain cancer from simply biting your checks. It's a common habbit. ...Many people with learning disabilites do it I heard of one kid that had severe problems with his ability to sense pain. Basically, things that would normal hurt wouldn't be noticed by this kid. He ended up having completley bitten his tongue off, his gums and the majority of the inside of his mouth. He ended up having to have his teeth removed for his own safety!
jim_supra
I do this too, I really don't know why I do it either, I don't think it's down to stress as when I'm stressed I tend to grind my teeth together (even in my sleep). so it must be (for me at least) some other reason. I don't bite down hard untill it hurts or anything like that I just find myself gripping the skin between my teeth. It's an odd thing to do, but I don't think it's doing me any harm. RedM
bitten his tongue off, his gums I'd say that it is impossible to bite your gums. It's the same as trying to touch your right elbow with your right hand!
Chris Wilson
You need something to put in your mouth to give your jaw something else to do. Don't be coy, out with it man....?

adnanshah247
I seem to have developed this habit of biting my cheek, on the insides. I think it's a stress thing but I was trying to remember when I didn't do it and I can't! Anyway, I randomly started reading up about it and apparently it can lead to mouth cancer? Is that just a load of ballbags? I'm trying to stop myself doing it now...any suggestions? i do that lol i do it when im bored, keep yourself busy

Matt H
I'd say that it is impossible to bite your gums. It's the same as trying to touch your right elbow with your right hand! That's not going to work

steady_dave
Not sure about causing cancer, however the fact that if your cheek is being bitten repeatedly it will cut open and that could lead to infection, and in turn Cancer if you are unlucky. I used to do this too all the time!
Charlotte
Wow it's like a club of closet cheek biters! Maybe we should form our own club for come out and feeling better that we're not alone? I don't bite them till I bleed or anything, just catch myself doing it ALL the friggin time. I do also grind my teeth but not make any noise, just kind of bite down hard. Yep, I'm just generally an all round freak.
