Took the negative battery terminal off to work on the car.

Connected it back up and now it wont start up. It turns over and all the electrics work but wont fire up.

Pretty sure it's the immobilisor, even had mr RAC out but he said as its an import he has no idea how to reset it.

Any ideas? Im going insane trying to get it started.

Well i assumed it was the immobilisor because the box under the bonnet normally flashes a red LED but now it just stays on constantly. Is there not an easy way to demobilise it?

Things to check-

1. Is your fuel pump buzzing when you crank the car?

2.Take a spark plug out to see if you are getting fuel to the block.(plpug should be wet with fuel)

3.Take a plug out connected to the coil pack and put it to the block and crank the engine to see if you are getting a spark from the ignitor pack.(make sure you have pulled the 2 EFI fuses in the engine bay fusebox first though) .

This should help narrow things down.

cheers rich, ill have to have a look tomorrow after work

Looks like its the train to work tomorrow then :(

Does the box thing with the light not have a keyhole or anything like that? Seems strange that there would just be a box with an LED.

Have you tried disconnecting it and re-connecting it again?

Ok found out what I was looking at wasnt my immobilisor lol

Think I must have a standard fit immobilisor

Mr RAC put a lamp on a cylinder and said no fuel was being let into the cylinders.

I had a quick look at all the fuses and couldnt see anything blown. Will have another look in the light tomorrow. Cheers for all the suggestions

'Generally' immobilizers work by cutting the ignition off, so you should have fuel but no spark hence no running engine. If youve got ignition then no fuel is the next port of call. Thats not to say some immobilizers dont knock the fuel pump off but not in my experience.

Take the coil pack off and, if you have one, attach and old spark plug to it (if not you will need to take one out and use it instead. Take out the EFI fuses to make sure no fuel is going into the block and then crank the car over while holding the tip of the spark plug against the block. If you get a spark then the ignitor pack is fine.

See if a local member can nip over and take their ignitor pack out for you to try out.No point buying one if it is not that mate.
