dublin lad
my supra has been lying for 2 days with no use. i went to take it out this morning and it would not start. not sure if its battery. after trying to start it for a few minutes i gave up. also while trying to start it after about 15-20seconds the alarm beeps. would it be i need a new battery? i know it was low on fuel but i just put in 10litres and still nothing. is there any tools etc you can get to test the power of battery or would i be best to buy a new one. all the lights work as does the cd player but i am not sure how much power is needed to run these. also i tried to jump start it with my avensis and still nothing. thanks for any advice help given. darren. merckx
is there any tools etc you can get to test the power of battery You could try the electric windows, don't put them down too far just incase they won't go back up. With a poor condition battery the windows will move slowly. Does the engine turn over slower than normal when you try to start it?
AlexJames
Sounds like a battery to me mate.. I had problems with my battery not holding the charge, if you jump it does it turn over?
dublin lad
not tried the windows yet as its raining heavy. i tried to jump it and it almost turned over. but my other car is only a 1.8 so not sure if it wud have the power to do it. although that may be a silly answer. when i turn the key its used to want to go but no nothing then the alarm goes on. pedrosixfour
If the battery is completely drained, which it sounds like it is, when you go to jump start it you need to leave the two batteries connected for a few minutes with the running engine at a high idle just to get a few amps back into your own battery before you try to start your car. Be sure that your alarm is disarmed before you try to start the car

It might just need charging up mate. Take it to a battery place and they will test it free for you and let you know whether it needs replacing. I think a supra needs to be something like 62 amp hour, if you check your battery and see what amp hour your one is
SUPRALOOPY
Also get a drain down test (drop test) done. One cell out will kill a battery.

themodifiedkid
cheers man. how do i check the power of the battery is there anything i can buy to test it. A voltmeter will do it as long it is calibrated for automotive use, but as i said earlier any battery centre should do a test on your battery free of charge

Rob Dublin
Make sure your alternator is not also knakered. When you do eventually get it running, get a dcent volt meter and take a reading (cheap ones won't give you anything like an accurate reading). 12v or less and you might be in for another bill. Should produce 14v.

I bought two Halfords batteries last year, one for my Saab and one for the Supra. Both crap now and need to buy two more, they wont be Halfords though, both gone in less than 18months. Bosch for me next time
dublin lad
its a bosch i have in just now, but i am not sure whenit was last changed. even so the car deserves money to be spent on it. and no battery means no driving. cheers for advice on the halfords one. Rob Dublin
argh, hope not. where do i get one of these volt readers local car part shop? any u can recommend? hows dublin tonight? Any hardware shop. Rough guide is to go for Fluke, or spend more than 50 quid on one! If you're friendly with an electrician or mechanic they'd likely have one. Dublin is pi**ing rain as usual.
