themodifiedkid
Ive found some oil residue in the intercooler pipes, does anyone have an idea what could cause this? Someone posted the same question up yesterday I think, dont worry its completely normal to get a small amount of residue in this piping apparantley. Its put my mind at rest anyway
jamesmark
I asked this when I first joined, apparently it is nothing to worry about.
edge
just old age. Aslong as the pipes are not swimming in oil but a little residue is ok

DannoSupra
There's not suppose to be that much!! Does the car smoke??
JohnH
hardly any smoke at all i think at this rate im going to have to take the fmic off and drain it ! Edited May 18, 2009 by JohnH (see edit history)
Digsy
If the engne was stock and brand new I'd say that was too much. If its getting on a bit then I'd say that's pretty normal - especially if its been modded.
JohnH
im unsure on the age of the block but i have fmic, hybrid stage 3 tubs blitz dsbc BC fully decatted with restrictor ring and after market exhaust it appears some things wasnt installed properly as there seems to be hardly any power at the moment, the boost gauge was plummed into the boost controller solenoid and there was some oil in the vac lines as well as what was found in the IC pipe. i was informed when i bought the car it was the oil return line but i dont see how this can leak oil into the system like it has, im hoping its something simple like a missplaced vac line and not actually a turbo seal on the intake side so thats why i made this post
DannoSupra
When was the last time you changed the oil?? It looks a bit thin and black. Might be an idea to flush the IC and change the oil.. drive it normally for a few weeks, and just pop the pipe off the Throttle Body and have another look
JohnH
I was told all fluids were changed and new plugs was done prior to purchase, this is something i didnt want to have to deal with right away, thats whats so annoying, i came from working on my rx7 for 4 years and i wanted something fun and out the box to mess around in. I was planning to flush the IC tomorrow anyway
JohnH
does anyone else have any insight into this problem? pleeeeeeeeeease lol
supraGZaerotop
normal, all turbo cars will have this, all my past cars did anyway, and i know there was nothing wrong with them.
SupraJames
Yeah thought this was normal, I have some oil in my pipes and even small oil particles come out the BOV. Guessing because the breather system is linked to the IC pipes..?
supraGZaerotop
then again just checked mine as i was doing my sidelights and heres mine, standard car tho

JohnH
Okay ive taken the fmic out and really... this can't be normal, its like the river stix ! those are the pipes before and after the intercooler i will investigate further but needless to say right now im pretty f*****g p***ed off. DannoSupra
Yes there is normally oil/residue in the intake side of things, But not that much! As i say the oil looks thin and old. Flush it all out, change the oil, and then check after few months of driving. If there's still oil in the intake side, ide be looking into Stem Seals or possible Turbo seals. There might be some sort of restriction in breather side of things, causing excessive crankcase pressure???
JohnH
the block is fine we checked the breater and it was pretty dry, we think its def coming from the turbos maybe intake side
Guest FKADizzmystar
i have the same thing, but i think mine is due to the broken cat restricting my air flow, and it cant be the turbo seals and stem seals on mine because i just had the stem seals done and the turbos rebuilt. iam about to post a pic up of my looks like Edited May 19, 2009 by FKADizzmystar (see edit history)

Tricky-Ricky
That amount of oil in the pipework is not normal, first thing to check is the breather system, if its not that then i'm afraid its turbo seals.
JohnH
Already checked the breather and its pretty dry, im going to attempt to whip the turbo's off today.. joy
